A vehicle with a price that could be up to almost $110,000 should have a design that can really wow all your friends. Unfortunately, the 2020 Porsche Macan isn’t that vehicle on the interior. First introduced for the 2015 model year, it hasn’t yet been redesigned.

While the 2020 Macan’s starting price is $50,900, a review from Cars.com says the cabin has “bland design.” Here’s a look at the 2020 Porsche Macan’s interior design and whether others agree.

The cabin of the Macan doesn’t use cheap materials, but it still doesn’t have that luxury feel. Cars.com blames that on “bland design and ordinary materials.”

Other luxury SUVs feature lots of padding on the seats as well as stitched trim. The standard seats are upholstered with Alcantara® seat centers. Buyers willing to pay for extra options can add leather seats and leather to many other spots in the interior, from the dashboard to the sun visors. Wood, carbon fiber, or aluminum interior trims are upgrades as well.

The front seats don’t adjust very far back, and the driver doesn’t have access to enough storage space. The rear seats don’t offer very much legroom, but the cargo space is comparable to what’s offered by competitors.

Reviews of the interior of the 2020 Macan are mixed. Car and Driver agree with Cars.com, saying the Macan has a “low-rent interior.” U.S. News & World Report is more favorable, describing the Macan’s interior as “refined.” Consumer Reports is also positive, describing the interior as “quiet, luxurious, and impeccably finished.”

Technology

The Macan’s technology design is a bit uneven. The center console features numerous buttons and indicators that can be difficult to navigate. The SUV sports a 10.9-inch touchscreen for its infotainment system, but it’s compatible with only Apple CarPlay and not with Android Auto.

In addition, Apple CarPlay, which does work wirelessly, appears on only seven diagonal inches of the touchscreen, making the icons appear very small. And, Apple CarPlay is available but doesn’t come standard.

The 2020 Macan also doesn’t include many standard advanced safety features. Lane departure warning does come standard, but forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking is optional and lane-centered steering assist is not available.

Another tech feature that isn’t standard is the keyless access system. This is an option even on the highest trim level, requiring most drivers to use a key.

What does make it worthy?

The 2020 Porsche Macan does have some redeeming qualities, and its performance capabilities are a big part of that. It has great steering and handling.

The base Macan trim has a standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which generates 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The Macan S has a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, producing 348 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the Macan GTS has a twin-turbocharged V6 engine, which generates 375 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The Macan Turbo has a twin-turbocharged V6, producing 434 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque.

There’s plenty of acceleration available for the 2020 Macan. All four trim levels go from zero to 60 MPH in between 4.3 and 6.3 seconds. Performance-enhancing features can be added to any of the four trims, including the adaptive dampers, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, and the Sport Chrono package.

The performance and handling make the 2020 Porsche Macan worth its price for some drivers. Those looking for fabulous interior styling or lots of standard features might be happier with a different SUV, especially since the Macan’s price is much higher than some competitors’. There are many options for customizing, but that can increase the price even further.
