The 2020 RAM Heavy Duty Goes Dark With Limited Black Edition
Apparently, in the automotive world “black is the new black” as the 2020 RAM Heavy Duty trucks are now available in a limited-edition blacked-out trim level. We thought that the “murdered out” trend would have been played out by now, but it looks like almost every automaker is still jumping on the opportunity to make their cars look cool and mysterious. It seems to work for the Toyota Corolla Hatchback, why wouldn’t it work for a giant heavy duty RAM truck?
The 2020 RAM Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition is the complete package
Well, at least they didn’t use the term “night edition,” although, we can imagine that coming up with a menacing name for a huge blacked-out truck would be hard. Names aside, the RAM Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition is a black appearance package for the RAM HD 2500 and 3500 trucks. While truck enthusiasts would likely wish that this special edition comes with some kind of power upgrade, it unfortunately doesn’t. It’s mainly just for looks, but it is a pretty complete package nonetheless.
The Black Edition package includes black exterior pieces like the door handles, a black front grille, black badging, headlight and tail light bezels, sideview mirrors, and even the tow hooks. As expected, the package comes with black wheels but the sizing varies. The single-rear-wheel models get 20-inch wheels while the RAM 3500 models with the dual-rear-wheels get 17-inch wheels.
It’s dark on the inside as well
The shades of darkness carry over to the interior as well. The Black Edition features an all-black leather interior with silver accents that pair up well and complete the goth-like ambiance. Aside from the darkened dress-up details, this edition of the RAM Heavy Duty trucks come with everything that you would expect out of the Limited trim level including a 12-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, navigation, and a 360-degree surround-view camera.
Other cool features include a class-exclusive auto-leveling air suspension that automatically adjusts to changing weight loads and road curvatures as well as the Adaptive Forward Lighting System that can turn up to 15 degrees to increase visibility in the turns. Let’s not forget about the available 750-watt, 17-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Sound system which, according to RAM, boasts the highest amount of speakers in the segment.
How much does all this darkness cost?
The blacked-out treatment is nothing new as Fiat-Chrysler currently offers some form of a murdered-out package on a lot of its other products including the Dodge Durango, Dodge Journey, and many vehicles the Jeep lineup. We’re not entirely sure if consumers have taken well to the blacked-out vehicles, however, there must be some traction in moving these special units considering RAM is now following suit.
As for pricing, the Black Edition package adds $1,295 to the bottom line, so expect to pay a starting price of $64,440 for the rear-wheel-drive RAM 2500 with the V8 engine and obviously more depending on which option boxes are checked off and whether or not you want the available 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel inline-six or the bigger RAM 3500.
