The Toyota automotive company has been making vehicles for a long time. Over the years, it’s built up quite a reputation for reliable cars, SUVs, and trucks. The Toyota Camry Hybrid, one of its impressive sedans, seems to be a favorite for some consumers as well as reviewers. 

U.S. News put together a list of all the Toyotas that scored high with them. The Camry Hybrid made the top of their list, and it’s no surprise why. Let’s look at what they liked about it and what other vehicles found a spot along with it. 

What makes it the best Toyota?

U.S. News gave the Toyota Camry Hybrid a score of 8.7 out of 10 possible points. They liked the smooth acceleration, above-average fuel economy ratings, extensive list of standard features, and an astonishing warranty for the battery system. 

But the list doesn’t stop there, though. Toyota is well known for its reliable vehicles that last a long time. The Camry is no exception to that rule. Plus, this sedan has the Toyota Safety Sense P package that comes with all Toyota vehicles. 

For the 2020 model, you’ll receive Apple’s CarPlay, Amazon’s Alexa, and now Android Auto all as standard features. To ensure it covers your hybrid for a long time, Toyota implemented two warranties for the Camry. You get the basic one that will last three years or 36,000 miles and there’s the five-year/60,000-mile warranty to cover the powertrain.

A brief overview of the Camry Hybrid

While the Toyota Camry isn’t the absolute best when it comes to fuel economy ratings, it is one of the top-rated vehicles in this area. The hybrid version can get up to 51 mpg when driving in the city and 53 mpg when traveling on the highway.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces around 208 total hp. Paired with it is a continuously variable transmission that US News editors felt complemented it well. 

When it comes to safety, the Toyota Camry excelled by gaining five stars out of five for crash test ratings from the NHTSA. That’s five stars for the frontal, side, and rollover tests. 

The IIHS tested the 2020 Toyota Camry and gave it a Top Safety Pick+ award. It earned a rating of Good for all the crash tests they performed on it. 

They even received a superior rating for the safety features that come standard on the sedan. The only issue the IIHS had was a minor one with the headlights, which they scored it with an Acceptable rating. 

Trunk space in the Camry is pretty average at 15.1 cubic feet. It’s surprising since the hybrids usually lose storage space in the trunk because of the batteries installed onboard the sedan. However, there are other hybrids with more cargo space than what the Camry has. 

Another issue U.S. News reviewers had with the 2020 model was the regenerative brake system. While not a huge issue, they felt it was worth mentioning that they could take some getting used to, especially if you haven’t driven a hybrid before. 

Other Toyotas on the list

While the Camry Hybrid was the top Toyota listed, the non-hybrid version of the Camry came in second with a score of 8.5 out of 10 points. Having two Camry models in the top two spots says this sedan is doing something right. 

Coming into the third spot is the 2021 Toyota Supra. This sports car earned a rating of 8.4 out of 10. The new model promises to be nimble with a new four-cylinder motor and a nice increase in horsepower for the V6 engine. 

There were four other hybrid vehicles on the list as well. The RAV4’s Hybrid model, being one of them, came in fourth place on the list US News put together. There’s also the Avalon Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid, and the Toyota Corolla in the hybrid version. 

The Toyota Camry Hybrid is an exceptional vehicle, so it’s no surprise that U.S. News sees it as the No. 1 not only as the best Toyota out there, but it’s also No. 1 in the hybrid sedan class and electric car segment as well.
