There are a lot of options when it comes to brand-new sedans. For example, even in the world of SUVs and trucks, the Mazda6 is still a capable and pretty good sedan. That said, Toyota still makes great cars, and the Camry is simply better than its competition.

What the 2020 Mazda6 offers

According to U.S. News, the Mazda6 is a decent car that has some pros and some cons. The main pros of the Mazda6 have to do with its performance and handling capabilities. There are two engine options on the Mazda6, and they vary based on your choice of trim. The base engine option is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that gets 187-hp. 

The other engine option is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that can get up to 250-hp if you use high octane fuel. U.S. News said that there was a stark difference between these two engines, with the base engine being good enough for most people, while the more powerful option being quite sporty. That said, no matter the engine choice, the Mazda6’s handling is stellar. 

However, the Mazda6’s flaws largely lay in the car’s interior. While U.S. News praised the materials used in the Mazda6’s cabin, its infotainment system was hard to use. Additionally, U.S. News thought that the rear seats on the Mazda6 were cramped.

In terms of price, the Mazda6 starts at just over $24,000.

What the 2020 Toyota Camry offers

U.S. News said that the Camry largely has similar pros and cons that the Mazda6 did, but there are plenty of differences. Like the Mazda6, U.S. News praised the Camry’s two engine options. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that gets about 206-hp, and the optional, and more powerful engine, is a 3.5-liter V6 that gets 301-hp.

Unlike the Mazda6, critics said that both engines were both powerful. The base engine not only provides more than enough power, but, with a fuel economy of 29 MPG in the city and 41 MPG on highways, it’s also very fuel-efficient.

The V6 is more powerful of course, but it does have a worse fuel economy. Just like the Mazda6 however, the Camry also has good handling scores, so both engines are great choices no matter what.

Similar to the Mazda6, the Camry’s main flaws are in its interior. U.S. News said that the Camry has a “noisy cabin” and that it has a below-average amount of trunk space. That said, U.S. News also praised some aspects of the Camry’s interior. For example, the Camry has a “generous list of standard features.” 

The Camry also starts at just over $24,000.

Why the 2020 Toyota Camry is just better than the 2020 Mazda6

Some of the Camry’s flaws can be found in the Mazda6, which makes those flaws less important when comparing the two. For instance, U.S. News said that the Camry has about 14.1 cu. ft. of trunk space, while the Mazda6 has 14.7 cu. ft. of trunk space.

The difference between the two is pretty negligible in that regard. With that said, the Mazda6 can increase its cargo space by folding the seats down, while the Camry can’t. 

On top of that, the Camry just has more pros than the Mazda6 does. For example, U.S. News also praised the Camry’s safety features, which are plentiful, to say the least. The Mazda6 is a safe car too, but it’s slightly less safe than the Camry is. And of course, when it comes to power and performance, the Camry takes the cake. 

So, since both cars are relatively the same price, there’s really no reason to choose the Mazda6 over the Camry if you just care about the numbers.
