The 2020 Toyota Tacoma Can’t Be Caught
It’s too late to hit the gas. The 2020 Toyota Tacoma is already way too ahead of the game to catch up. The Toyota Tacoma had more sales than the Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, and GMC Canyon combined.
The 2020 Toyota Tacoma is the best selling midsize truck
While 2020 was a rough year for most people, it was a great one for the Toyota Tacoma. According to Motor1, a few automakers suffered losses due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but the Tacoma remained king.
2020 pickup truck sales:
- The 2020 Toyota Tacoma sold 238,806 models.
- The Ford Ranger had a 13.3-percent increase in sales from 2019 and sold 101,486 units.
- The 2020 Chevy Colorado and GMC Cayon had a combined total of 121,428 units sold.
- The Honda Ridgeline had a 3.5-percent drop in sales compared to 2019 and sold 32,168 units.
- The Jeep Gladiator had a 94-percent sales increase from 2019 and sold 77,542 units.
- The Nissan Frontier suffered nearly a 50=percent sales drop from 2019 and only sold 36,845 units.
Competitors didn’t even come close to matching demand for the Toyota Tacoma. However, this may not be because it’s a better truck. Some auto manufacturers closed production factories to protect their workers.
Some manufacturers switched from making trucks to making personal protective equipment (PPE) to support essential workers. Also, a few trucks have been facing part shortages that have delayed production. Either way, the Tacoma still kicked butt.
What’s so great about the Toyota Tacoma?
According to Torque News, the Tacoma has been the best-selling midsize truck in America for the last decade and a half. So, it’s been wearing a crown for years. It also had a 1.3-percent increase in sales in 2020 over 2019.
The increase could be because each trim level received necessary updates to improve safety, technology, convenience, and owner satisfaction. One of the most significant updates includes making Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard on each trim level with updated capabilities.
A 7-inch touchscreen comes standard with the SR trim, but each other model has a standard 8-inch screen. For off-roading, a new multi-terrain monitor and panoramic view monitor are available on higher Toyota Tacoma trims.
Toyota Tacoma features
Each 2020 Toyota Tacoma model comes with standard Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P). It includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, high-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, and automatic high beams.
If you go with the optional V6 engine with the Tacoma SR5, you get a 10-way power adjustable driver’s set with two-way power lumbar support. The Tacoma Limited adds new 18-inch alloy wheels, LED/DRL headlamps, LED fog lamps, and chrome taillamp inserts.
With 4×4 models, you get 4WDemand part-time four-wheel-drive that uses an electronically controlled transfer case. You also get either an automatic limited-slip differential or an electronically controlled locking rear differential.
The Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road model has a locking rear differential, hill start assist control, and crawl control. With the Multi-Terrain Select system, you can adjust drive modes to meet various terrain conditions such as gravel, mud, or sand.
