The Volvo V60 is an excellent modern station wagon. It has plenty of space for passengers of all sizes, plus a large cargo area. For 2020, the V60 also got two redesigned trim options. One is the Polestar Engineered, which comes with a powerful hybrid powertrain and all of the V60’s available features.

The other is the Cross Country trim. It has a higher ride height along with adventurous upgrades like a raised suspension and all-wheel drive. The V60 Cross Country can cost around $6,000 more than the standard trim, but is it worth this price? Here’s what Brian Wong from Cars.com had to say about the Volvo V60 Cross Country.

Plentiful technology

Inside the Cross Country trim of the Volvo V60, there’s standard smartphone integration, satellite radio, and built-in navigation displayed on the 9-inch touchscreen. A premium stereo system is also available for this trim. Cars.com noted that the software was much faster than in previous Volvo cars.

While satisfied with the car’s technology overall, the review notes that the smartphone integration feature only uses half the screen. Because of the screen’s vertical display, accessing some features while driving may be a hassle. Cars.com also thought that the instrument panel display wasn’t as unique as the ones in other luxury cars.

Drivetrain specs

The Cross Country comes with the same engine as the standard Volvo V60. It’s a 2.0-liter four-cylinder capable of 250 hp. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Gas mileage is decent with 22 mpg on city roads and 31 mpg for highway driving.

The Cross Country configuration features a raised suspension, giving it a ground clearance of 8.3 inches. It also has hill ascent control, larger tires, and a new off-road driving mode. While Cars.com wouldn’t call the Cross Country a true off-roader, it can certainly handle rocky roads with ease.

How the Volvo V60 Cross Country performs on the road

Cars.com was pleased overall with the Cross Country’s ride quality. The suspension gives drivers a smooth ride with no vibrations, unlike the standard Volvo V60. In another review, the car was able to crest an unpaved mountain hill with no problems.

The reviewer wasn’t so enthusiastic about the car’s handling. They noted that the car doesn’t handle corners with speed. While it’s not the most thrilling to drive, it’s definitely able to take you more places than a regular Volvo wagon.

A cozy interior

The Volvo V60 Cross Country’s comfortable front seats also contribute to its pleasant ride quality. Both the seats and the steering wheel are wrapped in leather. The seats are also heated, ventilated, and come with 10-way adjustability settings.

Cargo space is ample in the back, providing almost 51 cubic feet with the back row folded. Cars.com also liked that the car provides plenty of extra storage solutions. There are hooks and straps on the sides of the car for holding items in place. There’s also a divider that can be pulled up from the floor.

Does the 2020 Volvo V60 Cross Country offer good value?

While the price hike looks a bit extreme at first glance, the difference is apparent once you’re behind the wheel. Cars.com found that the Cross Country definitely performs better both on- and off-road than the regular V60 wagon. In addition to all the cool extras, it also comes with a few additional safety features.

For these reasons, the V60 Cross Country is definitely worth its retail price. The demand for more modern wagons has definitely increased over the past few years. With wagons as versatile as the V60 Cross Country, it’s not difficult to see why.
