Honda has earned millions of fans thanks to its focus on performance and affordability. And if you’re a Honda that wants to take things up a notch, there’s Acura. You may have a hard time justifying the price bump between brands, but the 2021 Acura RDX is one compelling option.

What it’s like to drive the 2021 Acura RDX 

The RDX doesn’t have the same level of prestige that its German rivals do. And for this reason, many drivers consider the RDX as a Honda with a different badge. Although, the RDX will give you more of a thrill than the CR-V can. 

One thing the RDX does well is perform. This luxury compact SUV presents a single engine option, and that’s a turbocharged 272-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder linked to a 10-speed automatic. The RDX gets points performance-wise because of its power and agility.  

While the RDX doesn’t offer many performance options, you can upgrade from front-wheel drive to all-wheel drive. Reviewers, including Edmunds, say that RDX models with AWD are more fun to drive. Standard models with FWD have an EPA rating of 24 mpg overall; opting for AWD sacrifices a point. These ratings are decent for the class, especially considering the power the RDX provides. 

Available cabin comforts 

The RDX is a comfortable five-seater with decent cargo space. As you would expect from a luxury SUV, the RDX has a well-made cabin with supercar-like frills. Base models come with various features, including keyless entry, simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. 

Regarding in-car tech, the RDX comes with Acura’s True Touchpad infotainment system. It includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a wifi hotspot. Technically, the RDX is only available in one trim level, but you have a few customization options.

The optional Technology package includes genuine leather, a navigation system, and an upgraded stereo. Opt for the A-Spec package to add stylish features such as upgraded black-painted exterior trim and modified bumpers. Additionally, there’s the top-tier Advance package. The Advance package impresses with sound-reducing front side glass, a surround-view camera, and a head-up display. 

What about the RDX PMC Edition?

Acura launched a limited PMC Edition for the 2021 RDX, which costs around $50K. The PMC models share the same styling elements as Acura’s NSX, such as thermal orange pearl paint. The downside for some enthusiasts is that Acura only made 360 PMC Edition units, and deliveries began in October 2020.
