The Acura RDX has been the brand’s top-selling car for the past couple of years and for the 2021 model year, it’s getting an NSX-inspired makeover. No, it’s not going to be the lucky recipient of a 573-hp, hybrid powertrain (we wish), instead, the RDX is following suit with its TLX and MDX stablemates by undergoing the PMC treatment complete with an orange paint job that’s offered on the NSX.

Orange you glad that there is an Acura RDX PMC Edition?

Just like the PMC Editions of the TLX and MDX before it, the 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition will only have a limited production run of 360 units and be built in Acura’s Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Ohio. Unlike the previous cars, each one of them will feature a Thermal Orange Pearl paint job — as opposed to Valencia Red – which will be contrasted by a host of black accents to complement it. According to Acura, it takes five days for the paint job to be completed before the car is completely hand-assembled.

The painting process takes longer than usual because Acura applies multiple base coats, a mid-coat of gold and orange mica, and then four layers of clear coat. It’s also the same orange paint that they been using on the NSX since 2019, so you can see just how special it is.

Exclusive PMC Edition features

After the painting process is completed, the PMC master technicians get to work in assembling the cars by installing the drivetrain and chassis components, wire harness, and the electronics.  When that’s all said and done, they install the 20-inch black wheels and other special PMC features that includes an individually numbered plague that affixed to the center console.

In addition to the stealthy wheels, all Acura RDX PMC Edition models will be similar to the Advance-trim RDX, but will also come with black exterior door handles, a gloss black roof panel with a panoramic moonroof, a gloss black Diamond Pentagon grille, gloss black mirrors, and dark chrome exhaust tips. The special treatment extends to the inside as well, as the seats are adorned with black Milano leather with suede inserts and orange stitching, the steering wheel is wrapped in leather with orange stitching, and the floor mats complete with A-Spec badging and, you guessed it, orange stitching.

It has a special price tag as well

While the official pricing for the 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition is yet to be revealed, Acura says that it will be priced in the “low $50,000s.” That’s not bad considering the standard-issue Advance trim level retails for $48,000 when the all-wheel-drive configuration is selected. And while you might not think that a fancy paint job and a set of black wheels might not be worth the extra money, keep in mind that most professional paint jobs can easily cost $5,000.

So, if you like orange and you’ve always had your eye on the new Acura RDX, then it could be your time to pull the trigger. Just act fast, because there’s only a limited number of them.
