Audi is celebrating its return to work by breaking a major automotive trend. The German automaker has decided to refresh the Audi Q5 mid-cycle. The current cycle is only in its third year, but this might actually be a very clever move. 

The Q5 is taking a bit of a beating due an engine in the 2014 model year that would cut off while driving, so Audi might be getting ahead of the game by making some much-needed updates. Or they might have decided that even the Q5 needs a facelift every once in a while. Either way, Kelley Blue Book is impressed by the changes being made to the 2021 Audi Q5, and we think you will too.

The body has had a facelift

Every new cycle usually showcases an updated exterior look, but Audi has decided to go ahead and do it anyway for the 2021 Q5. This time, the German automaker has made the Advanced Line exterior package standard. Consumers who always wanted this package but couldn’t afford it will be delighted to finally get it.

This package includes 18-inch 5-arm-star design wheels with all-season tires. There are also two other options for the tires which include 19-inch 5-double-arm design bi-color wheels, or 20-inch 5-arm-design wheels. 

The exterior body now has vertical chrome strips in the Audi signature Singleframe grille. This also includes complimentary silver accents in the front and rear bumpers to help Q5 drivers stand out from the crowd.

The 2021 Q5 also comes with LED headlights that are now standard as well. If you want more, you can always upgrade to the Prestige trim package. If offers the matrix-design headlights that will allow you to use your brights without blinding everyone else on the road.

The 2021 Audi Q5’s engine is better than ever

There aren’t a lot of changes for the engine, but the few minor changes have made a difference. Like the 2020 Audi Q5, the 2021 model will have a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. That being said, it now gets 13 more horsepower than the 2020 model. This ups the 2021 Q5’s game to 261 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

Even more interesting is the fact that the 12-volt mild-hybrid system is now standard. Audi has designed it so that the hybrid system integrates into the alternator starter. Strangely enough, the hybrid system is not responsible for the increase in horsepower. 

The engines for the Q5 PHEV SUV and the SQ5 weren’t upgraded. They’re still the same as they were for the 2020 model. 

You’ll fall in love with the interior

As important as the exterior is, it’s the interior that impacts the driver the most. It’s where we spend the most time, after all, so if the interior isn’t up to par, then drivers aren’t going to be happy. Audi took that to heart and made some of the most sought after options standard. 

Apple CarPlay and Audi’s integrated toll module are now standard. For drivers who don’t have to drive through tolls on a daily basis, this update is probably useless.

Another new feature that consumers will love is the all-new MIB 3 (Modular Infotainment Toolkit). According to Kelley Blue book, it will have “faster processing, more functionality, and more expansive entertainment opportunities.” 

There is also a wide range of standard driving assistance technology that includes Audi side assist with Pre-Sense rear, lane departure warning, parking system plus (front and rear acoustic sensors).

If you want the top view camera system, and adaptive cruise control with active lane assist, you’ll have to upgrade to the Premium Plus trim. Still, Audi has really stepped up by offering more standard features now. The 2021 Audi Q5 will be available this fall.
