One of the most exciting times each year is when automakers introduce their new vehicles. Some will disappoint, while others will draw a ton of interest. The 2021 model year looks promising for Chevrolet with its midsize Colorado pickup. The automaker will offer three powertrain options with four different trim level packages. Kelley Blue Book reviewed the 2021 pickup and showed us just what we can expect for the new year.

What are the engine options that will come with the 2021 Chevy Colorado?

There are three different engine options that you’ll see with the new 2021 model of the Chevy Colorado. The Work Truck, or base model, will come standard with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder motor that can handle 5,500 lbs of towing capacity. It will produce 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. It will also, reportedly, get you 25 mpg on the highway for the 2WD version, and 24 highway mpg for the 4WD option. 

The midrange motor is the 3.6-liter V6 engine. This powertrain will produce 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. As far as gas mileage goes, it can get you 25 highway mpg for the 2WD model and 24 mpg for the 4WD version. 

The most powerful option the Colorado offers is the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine. This turbo-diesel inline-four motor will produce about 186 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The EPA estimates that this Colorado model should get around 30 mpg on the highway for the 2WD version, 24 mpg for the 4WD model, and 22 mpg for their ZR-2, their off-roading option.

What are the sizes and drivetrain options for the Colorado?

The Chevrolet Colorado comes with two distinct bed sizes. You can choose the smaller cargo bed that’s just over five feet in length or their bigger sized version that’s just over six feet in length.

As far as the type of cab it will come with, you’ll see two different options. Both bed options will come with either the crew cab or the extended cab version, depending on what look you’re going for. 

There are two different drivetrain options to choose from. The 2WD version is great for those needing a work truck to haul smaller loads around in with no need to go on off-roading paths. Then, of course, you can also choose their 4WD model, which is great for handling rougher terrains. 

An overall view of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado

The Chevy Colorado comes with four different trim level packages. The first is the base model, which they call the Work Truck. This is the simplistic version geared toward providing only what you need a work truck to have. You’ll get a 7-inch touchscreen, 16-inch wheels, and a six-speed automatic transmission. 

Next in line is the LT trim package, which gives you the same work truck features but with a few extras. With this model, you’ll get an 8-inch screen, 17-inch wheels, a remote-controlled locking tailgate, and body-colored handles on the doors.

Chevy offers two 4WD wonders. The Z71 trim will come with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, an off-roading suspension, rugged, all-terrain tires, and an automatic locking rear differential.

Finally, there’s the ZR-2 that’s another off-roader. This 4WD pickup has a full-locking front differential. It will also come with an off-roading rocker protector, 17-inch Goodyear DuraTrac tires, multimac shocks, and a wider and taller stance for the body. 

The 2021 Chevy Colorado looks very promising for next year. With the three engine options and the several trim packages to choose from, one could easily find just what they need in their pickup.
