In recent years, the Chevy Silverado has fallen behind the competition. Instead of being the Ford F-150’s largest rival, it’s been struggling to keep up with the RAM 1500. But now the 2021 Chevy Silverado is gaining much-needed muscle and more to take down the competition. 

2021 Chevy Silverado upgrades 

The 2021 Chevy Silverado is getting a variety of upgrades to compete with other 2021 rivals. Spy shots suggest that one of the upgrades insides a new face, after the massive grille design with tiny headlights at the top didn’t go over so well. 

Along with a new look, the 2021 Chevy Silverado is gaining new muscle. The 2.7-liter turbo and 3.0-liter diesel engines will have more towing power. But unfortunately, the new towing numbers haven’t been released yet. 

With the 2020 Chevy Silverado, the 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder engine can tow up to 6,000 lb. The 3.0-liter diesel engine can also tow up to 9,300 lb, and these ratings are behind the competition. 

The 2020 Ford F-150 Power Stroke diesel engine can haul up to 11,400 lb while the 2020 RAM 1500 leads the way. The EcoDiesel can tow up to 12,560 lb. Currently, the Chevy Silverado doesn’t come close to those numbers, so it has some work to do. 

2021 Chevrolet Silverado trailering tech 

Along with the ability to tow more weight with diesel engines, the 2021 Chevy Silverado is also gaining enhanced trailering tech. The 1500 trucks are said to gain “Trailering Tech Enhancements,” which refers to the light-duty pickup trucks. 

The best guess is that the reversing camera angles will receive an update. The view could be displayed in a digital review view mirror or the infotainment center screen. However, the Silverado already offers 15 different camera angles. 

So perhaps it will gain a trailering hitch guide like its rivals has or trailer backup assistance. Both the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 help by automatically turning the wheel to help direct the trailer where you want it to go. 

What is new for the 2021 Chevy Silverado? 

For 2021, the Chevy Silverado is expected to come with a few driver assistance and safety features, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and forward collision alert. However, adaptive cruise control didn’t make the list, which its rivals have.  To keep pricing low, the safety features will remain optional. 

Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires will provide the 2021 Chevy Silverado with a more aggressive look. They are available as a 20-inch wheel and tire combo, but may only come with the Trail Boss off-roading models. 

Also, three new Chevy Silverado trims will be available, including the All-Star Edition Plus, Texas Edition Plus, and the LTZ Premium Texas Edition. The All-Star Edition Plus is basically the same as the Texas Edition Plus, only without the Texas badges. 

There hasn’t been an update on the previously announced Chevy Silverado Real Tree Edition, so that remains a mystery, and the LT trim is losing its sunroof option. The LTZ will have a standard power tailgate, and the tailgate will be optional on the LT, and LT Trail Boss trims.
