Is the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 a good truck?
Of course, the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 is a good truck option to consider. It just hasn’t received recent updates to match the modern qualities that rivals have. According to Cars.com, the interior isn’t up to par.
It may look and feel outdated compared to the Ford F-150 and especially the Ram 1500, which recently won the 2020 luxury car of the year award. The Silverado could use some tech, comfort, and quality updates. However, they also mentioned a few excellent redeeming features.
1. The Silverado is great for towing
The 2021 Chevy Silverado can be a beast. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 13,300 lbs. This may not match the Ford F-150’s ability to tow up to 14,000 lbs, but it’s close. The Silverado can also carry a payload of up to 2,250 lbs.
With the 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, you get 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. If you pair the diesel engine with 4×4, the truck gets an EPA estimated 22/24/26 mpg. Plus, the Chevy Silverado diesel engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and is very smooth and quiet.
The 2021 Silverado gained enhanced trailering tech, including a trailer length indicator, jack-knife alert, and an enhanced cargo view camera. The camera views also show the sides of the trailer and what’s directly behind it.
2. It has a good value
The 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 provides a lot of value for its price. You can get started in one for about $28,900. This is the MSRP before destination and dealership markups have been added. The 2021 Ford F-150 has an MSRP of about $28,940.
It comes with a standard 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capabilities. The Silverado WT is available with the 4.3-liter EcoTech V6 engine, 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine, and the 2.7-liter turbo engine.
Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking and forward collision alert.Available features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assistance.
3. The Chevy Silverado has a nice ride
The 2021 Chevy Silverado has an impressive ride quality. It’s easy to drive thanks to its responsive steering that’s very responsive. The ride is also smooth in most situations. Generally, larger trucks or SUVs feel a little heftier.
With the 5.3-liter engine that provides 355-hp, you can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.1 seconds, which is pretty fast! The engine pretty quiet, and the brake pedal is firm and reassuring. There can be noticeable bumps in the cabin at times.
But that’s pretty standard in large trucks and SUVs when you aren’t towing anything. The cabin doesn’t rattle over bumps, though. It feels nice and sturdy despite seeming so outdated. But if the interior quality makes a difference, it might be better to wait for the updated 2022 Chevy Silverado.
