The 2021 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban are already two of the most popular full-size SUVs available. They even offer a pair of naturally aspirated V8 engines developing up to 420 hp. If your daily driver SUV isn’t fast enough, there’s a solution. According to GM Authority, reported by Motor1, Chevy Performance has developed some horsepower adding goodies for the pair of SUVs.

Freeing up the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban’s exhaust gains 11 hp

The 2021 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban offer a choice of two naturally aspirated V8 engines. The first is a 5.3-liter unit developing 355 hp and 385 lb-ft of torque. The second option is a 6.2-liter engine developing 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

To bump their power, GM Authority reports that Chevy Performance began by freeing up engine backpressure. A new cat-back exhaust system is offered in both dual and single exit configurations. The result is that engine backpressure is reduced by 30 percent. In the case of the 6.2-liter engine, the new dual-exit exhaust shows gains of 11 hp and 6 lb-ft of torque. The dual-exit exhaust gives the 5.3-liter engine an extra 7 hp and 4 lb-ft of torque. The single-exit sees slightly smaller gains in the 5.3-liter engine showing an increase of just 4 hp and 2 lb-ft of torque.

A new intake system also joins the fold, reducing intake restriction by 17 percent in the 6.2-liter engine and 13 percent in the 5.3-liter engine. Strangely enough, no hp gains have officially been reported as of writing.

Chevy’s SUVs get more than just extra power

The 2021 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban get more than just a decent bump in power. Given the heavy nature of both SUVs and the newly added power figures, you’ll most likely want some larger brakes as well. In response, Chevy Performance is also releasing a larger brake setup. Now you’ll be able to get six-piston Brembo brakes in the front. Oddly enough, there is no mention of Brembo brakes in the rear, just that they are color-matched to the fronts.

Given how relatively new these Chevy SUVs are, there is a possibility that Chevy Performance could add even more parts shortly. We also have to consider the available turbo-diesel engine, which could also get an intake and exhaust combo as well. However, manufacturer performance parts are rarely cheap, and these new parts certainly carry a premium.

How much do these new parts cost?

The 2021 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban performance parts are by no means cheap. Let’s do a bit of window shopping and add them all up. For starters, the dual-exit exhaust system costs $2,145 regardless of engine choice. The single-exit unit costs $1,645 and is only available for the 5.3-liter engine. The aforementioned intake racks up the bill by $625 in both engine configurations.

The new brakes don’t fall far behind either. The upgraded front Brembo brakes cost $2,895. That figure doesn’t include the rear brakes, which add $575. Add them all up, and a 6.2-liter V8 Chevy Tahoe or Suburban can cost an additional $6,240 over the starting price. Thankfully, buyers aren’t tied into buying all of the parts together as a package. As a result, you can fine-tune just how much extra performance you want from your daily driver.
