Is the 2021 Chevy Tahoe a good SUV?
Yes, the 2021 Chevy Tahoe is a good SUV. It has a few new aspects to improve passenger comfort, safety, and ride quality. Mark Phelan of Detroit got to test drive this massive SUV and had many positive things to mention.
However, to first catch you up to speed, the 2021 Chevy Tahoe has a starting price around $50k, which is $1,000 more than the 2020 Chevy Tahoe, but the improvements may make the price worth it.

Also, remember, this is a larger SUV, so don’t expect a great fuel economy. The Chevy Tahoe manages to get 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. But the 2004 Tahoe got 14 mpg, so this is an improvement. We will need a hybrid plug-in SUV or an electric one for a better fuel economy.
2021 Chevy Tahoe Performance
The base engine in the 2021 Chevy Tahoe is a 5.3-liter V8 engine with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. However, Mark had the optional 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
He mentioned that the Chevy Tahoe had a speedy acceleration, and it can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds. Also, he mentioned that the 10-speed automatic transmission provides smooth gear shifts.
The independent rear suspension and 22” alloy wheels provide an incredibly smooth ride that rear handled potholes with ease. The cabin was quiet on the road as well, and for a large SUV, the turning radius and handling felt very easy and controlled.
Mark didn’t get a chance to test the towing, but the 2021 Chevy Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 lb. Also, while he did drive on country roads and the interstate, he didn’t have a chance to test this beast in four-wheel-drive.
2021 Chevy Tahoe features
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe got 6.7” longer, increasing passenger space and making it longer than the Chevy Suburban. It also increased cargo space by 25%. There are 122.9 cubic feet of cargo space, allowing you to fit a lot of people and things in there.
Also, the massive leather seats provide comfort and versatility. Mark noted that the 2nd row seats were easy to fold down and flip forward to get out of the way. There is also a motorized storage bin that moves to the second row for passengers in the back to access.
There was also an impressive amount of tech that was easy to use, including adaptive cruise control, an adaptive air suspension, a 10.2” infotainment center with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, trailer hitch guidance, and more.
Available safety features include blind-spot detection, automatic braking in the front and rear, collision alert, pedestrian detection, rear-cross traffic alert, automatic high beams, a safety alert driver seat, and parking assistance. The safety alert driver seat causes the driver seat to vibrate for warnings instead of having a loud beep emit from the dash.
