The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer Creates a Fantastic Problem for GM
The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer is, without a doubt, one of the brand’s most important crossovers. This is because the Trailblazer’s $19,000 starting price makes it the cheapest brand-new Chevy crossover you can buy. Given the immense popularity of the crossover segment in the U.S., it comes as no surprise that buyers are flocking to the model. As a result, CarBuzz report that the intense demand is overwhelming the current supply, creating a shortage.
How quickly is the the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer selling out?
If you are in the market for a 2021 Chevy Trailblazer, you’ll want to act quickly and secure one. This is because CarBuzz reports that demand for the crossover is reportedly four times higher than the currently available supply. As a result, it won’t surprise you to learn that sales for the model skyrocketed in 2020, leaving little to no availability in dealerships.
According to CarBuzz, the average time it takes to sell a brand-new Chevy Trailblazer is around 36 days. Oddly enough, buyers are seemingly opting for the pricier trim levels instead of the base model. CarBuzz reports that a top-trim RS model sells in around 29 days while a lower LS model takes up 51 days. For context, CarBuzz report that the industry average to sell a vehicle is around 60 days.
The result here is that even if you can afford the relatively low starting prices, chances are you’ll leave the dealership empty-handed. However, Chevy has reportedly taken notes and is shifting production.
What does this mean for other Chevy models?
The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer sits alongside the larger Trax in the brand’s crossover lineup. However, after taking note of how popular the newer model is, Chevy decided to shift its focus in a significant way. As a result, CarBuzz reports that the American carmaker will slow down the production of the more expensive Trax to focus on meeting Trailblazer demand.
What makes this bit of news particularly interesting has to do with the Trax’s sales figures. According to GM, Chevy managed to sell 106,299 Trax models in 2020. In contrast, just 34,292 Chevy Trailblazer models found new homes during the same time period. As a result, it seems that Chevy sees the true potential of its cheapest new model as a real contender to rival the great-selling Trax.
As CarBuzz reports, the Chevy Trax is also five years old at this point and isn’t quite as high-tech as the Trailblazer. Therefore it makes sense to invest heavily into the new model as the other option begins to age.
This crossover isn’t the only model selling out quickly
While the production of the Chevy Trailblazer seems like a great problem to have, GM has another significant hurdle to deal with. This is because the demand for pickup trucks has also skyrocketed toward the end of 2020. As a result, GM has had to invest large sums of money to keep the factories going with multiple shifts and new machinery. The same goes for GM and its full-size pickup trucks.
Thankfully for buyers, it seems Chevy is taking all of the necessary steps to meet demand in the coming months. So if you are in the market for a brand-new Trailblazer or a full-size pickup truck, it won’t be long before you can walk into a dealership and buy one without issue.
