It’s well-known that auto manufacturers have been switching from the production of sedans to more SUVs and pickup trucks over the past few years. Sales have shown that consumers are favoring larger vehicles – such as the Chevy Trailblazer – and, since they sell for more, automakers have been putting more and more effort into producing them. Sounds like a win-win, right?

Well, almost. The problem has become that vehicles are beginning to lack diversity. It seems as though each new model year, every SUV looks the same as every other SUV. They tend to have most of the same features and even similar engines. This year, the new Chevrolet Trailblazer is getting criticized for its lack of originality, and we’re expecting to hear more of these criticisms over the coming years. 

What do reviewers think of the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer?

In a recent review by Cars.com, we can see how the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer is received by critics. It’s important to note that Chevrolet had taken a break from the Trailblazer over the past decade and decided to bring it back in 2021 thanks to its SUV-oriented lineup. The last time a new Trailblazer hit North American car lots was in 2009. 

This new iteration of the Trailblazer was deemed by Cars.com to be up to par. They commented that the 2021 Trailblazer is fun to drive with its quick steering changes and smooth transmission, and noted that the brakes were a high point — responsive but not too sensitive. 

The interior of the Trailblazer, however, was a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the detailing like the stitching and the trim looks cheaply done and leaves you wondering why they bothered trying to make it look fancier than it is. They also found the amount of advanced convenience technology to be substantial for its price point, as well as the number of safety features.

The new model does little to distinguish itself from the crowd

But where the new Trailblazer finds itself lacking is in its originality. The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer could really be any other crossover SUV dressed up with a Chevy logo on the front and consumers wouldn’t know the difference. On the outside, the Trailblazer ticks all the boxes for popular crossover SUVs on the market right now: slim headlights, a floating styled roof panel, and plastic wheel arches to make it look sporty. 

While it’s getting a little old to keep seeing the same style choices across brands, we have to acknowledge that the recipe seems to be working. SUV sales continue to increase year after year. Auto manufacturers are going to continue incorporating elements that make consumers excited, so they really can’t be to blame; we’re just disappointed to see a lack of creativity. 

The features of the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer

The good thing about being similar to its competitors is that the Trailblazer’s competition is laden with strong contenders, so that means it has to hold up to the crowd. The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer comes with plenty of features to keep you satisfied on the road.

Technology like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available at certain trim levels, and their safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, a forward collision alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. Optional safety features include adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and more. 

The base model of the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer comes in with a price tag of $19,995, which is a great price compared to some of its more expensive competitors. The new Trailblazer has plenty of room to grow in the future, but this seems like a pretty good start for it.
