The 2021 Chevy Trax Has No Business Being More Expensive Than the Trailblazer

The SUV division is tighter than ever, but many people have a preference for a specific automaker, and won’t purchase anything else. Chevrolet has a very big following in America, and its patrons won’t buy from anyone else. Even so, trying to decide between the Chevy Trax and the Trailblazer can be difficult.

Both have their pros and cons. Unfortunately, the list of cons might seem longer than the pros, but that’s up for you to decide. So, which will you choose?

The 2021 Chevy Trailblazer has a lot to offer

The Chevy Trailblazer has been through a lot of changes over the years, but this might just be its best look. It has a Camaro-like front end, smooth lines, and some great color choices.

There are two engines you can choose from. The entry-level is a turbocharged three-cylinder 1.2-liter engine with 137 hp, and a turbocharged three-cylinder 1.3-liter engine with 155 hp. It has a starting price of $19,000, which is very attractive for many buyers.

Other good points include a large rear seat that makes road trips a little more comfortable. The high roof also makes it a pleasant ride for tall individuals.

All is not well with the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer, however. According to MotorTrend, “The Trailblazer shakes over broken pavement and is slow to accelerate getting onto the freeway, although these are rather common traits among subcompact crossovers. Its modest powertrains make it a better fit for city dwellers.”

The Chevy Trax has a higher starting price

The Chevy Trax has a higher starting price of $21,400. Normally, this would imply that it’s bigger, hence the inflated price tag. That’s not the case with the Trax, however. It’s actually smaller than the Trailblazer, but not by much.

The 2021 Trax comes equipped with a 138-hp 1.4-liter I-4 engine. For anyone looking for more power, they can upgrade to the 1.4-liter I-4 engine that produces 155 hp. The drive is smooth enough, but nothing to brag about.

There are two new special editions on the LT trim. One is the Midnight Edition, and the other is the Sport Edition.

For anyone who liked the sunroof and Bose audio system, there is bad news. Both have been removed from the LT trim. The Premier trim level is no more as well.

Which one is worth buying?

Trying to decide which one is superior is a bit tough. The Trax has a slightly better drive, but the Trailblazer has more room. The Trax also offers more trim levels, but it’s lost quite a few of the features that made it so desirable.

Cars.com gave the Trailblazer a consumer score of 4.8 stars while the Trax got a 5.0-star rating. So which do you choose?

The Trailblazer has faced some criticism for being overpriced at the higher trim levels. It’s also been accused of lacking in power. While not everyone cares about how much horsepower a vehicle offers, when you press the gas, and you’re still sitting there, it’s more than a little annoying.

The Chevy Trax doesn’t get much love, either. It’s not a bad SUV, but when compared to other rivals outside the Chevy realm, it falls flat.

If you have to choose between the Trax or the Trailblazer, then your best bet would probably be the Trax. It’s not great, but it’s a little better than the Trailblazer. That being said, you’d probably be better off going with another subcompact SUV like the Honda HR-V, the Hyundai Kona, or the Mazda CX-30.
