The Dodge Charger definitely doesn’t look like your typical large sedan. This famous Dodge muscle car got its start as a two-door pony car, but it was redesigned as a four-door sedan. Thankfully, it still retains its aggressive styling and powerful engines, and critics like Autotrader love it.

Everything to love about the 2021 Dodge Charger

The Dodge Charger gives drivers plenty of variety when it comes to powertrain options. The base sedan is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 capable of 292 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Under the hood of the Charger R/T is a 5.7-liter V8 that makes 370 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque.

The Dodge Charger is even more exciting for 2021 thanks to the addition of the new SRT Hellcat Redeye trim. Its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 makes a jaw-dropping 797 hp and 707 lb-ft of torque. The regular SRT Hellcat Charger has the same engine, but it makes 717 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.

Each Dodge Charger is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and great acceleration regardless of the engine. The SRT Hellcat Redeye is predictably the fastest model, jumping from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

The V8 models also have better handling, but the suspension on these cars is slightly more firm. If you want the most comfortable cruiser, go with a V6 Charger.

The base V6 model also comes with a lot of standard features for the price. The intuitive Uconnect 4 infotainment system comes with smartphone integration, Bluetooth, and optional satellite radio. If you add all-wheel drive, you also get bigger wheels, ventilated brake discs, and a stylish spoiler.

Its only standard safety feature is parking sensors, but an optional technology package gives you several more driver’s aids. The Hellcat versions don’t have access to this bundle, opting for more racing enhancements instead. These include an adaptive suspension, performance steering, wider wheels, and upgraded Brembo brakes.

Every Dodge Charger also has a spacious interior, so it’s a great family car as well as a credible racer. Legroom in both rows is adequate and the door openings are large enough that taller riders don’t have to duck inside. The Dodge Charger also has a bigger trunk than most sedans.

The 2021 Dodge Charger doesn’t have many flaws

Either Dodge Charger Hellcat is an amazing car from a performance perspective, but both come with some minor annoyances. These two run out of juice faster than any other trim and require the most expensive fuel at the pump. Additionally, AWD isn’t available for either Dodge Charger Hellcat.

While the Charger’s interior is comfortable and roomy, it’s also showing its age. It’s pretty bland style-wise, mostly composed of hard plastic materials and rubbery trim.

Autotrader also noted that the Charger’s second row isn’t as big compared to other sedans. However, it’s also the cheapest large sedan on the market, so some drivers might be able to overlook these flaws.

In a class of its own

The only car you can truly compare to the Dodge Charger is its coupe sibling, the Dodge Challenger. The Challenger sports the same supercharged Hellcat engines and iconic styling. However, it’s harder to access the backseat because it only has two doors, which can be a downside for families.

The Chrysler 300 has a similar interior and structure as the Dodge Charger, but its engines and handling prowess are disappointing. The Kia Stinger is definitely fast, but it isn’t really in the same class as the Charger. The Dodge Charger is truly one-of-a-kind compared to its competition, which has contributed to its popularity for decades.
