When Ford first launched the Ford Bronco build and price configurator back in October, people were pretty pleased. And why not? Plenty of car shoppers have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on the new Ford Bronco. According to a report from Ford Authority, however, the Bronco’s build and price configurator was updated last week. Unfortunately, that update meant the 2021 Ford Bronco just got more expensive. But only for some buyers.

Ford updated the build and price tool for the 2021 Ford Bronco

Based on what Ford North America Product Communications Manager, Mike Levine, has to say, Ford updated the build and price tool and “corrected some earlier preliminary pricing errors.” According to the automaker, the build and price configurator for the 2021 Ford Bronco wasn’t accounting for certain charges, specifically for the 10-speed automatic transmission and Advanced 4×4 options when buyers chose the Bronco’s available Sasquatch Package. Meaning that, for trim levels standard with the Bronco’s seven-speed manual, the update resulted in an unexpected price increase.

How the update impacted the price of the Ford Bronco

According to Ford Authority, the Bronco’s build and price configurator listed several things as costing $0 when they definitely don’t. Ford Authority says that the Sasquatch Package should cost $4,995 and the 10-speed transmission should run $1,595. The Advanced 4×4 should also cost $795. Unfortunately, the build and price tool listed the latter two at $0. Another hiccup? According to Ford Authority, some Bronco builds were also charged for the transmission not once but twice.

Those weren’t the only problems with the 2021 Ford Bronco’s build and price tool, either. Ford Authority reports that the Ford Bronco’s Black Diamond and Badlands trims with the Mid package also listed the Bronco’s 10-speed transmission as costing $0. The cost of its seven-speed manual transmission when choosing Ford’s 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine wasn’t being accounted for either. Now, the configurator tacks on an additional $1,595 for it. 

How much does the 2021 Ford Bronco cost?

Opt for the base-level 2021 Ford Bronco, and you can expect to spend at least $28,500 on it. The Ford Bronco Big Bend, meanwhile, will cost you $33,385. Climb the ranks, and as you might have guessed, the Ford Bronco gets more and more expensive. Opt for one with all the bells and whistles, and you can expect to spend at least $57,410 on the Ford Bronco.

Getting your hands on this SUV might take a while

If you were lucky enough to score a 2021 Ford Bronco, then you’re probably aware that it has been delayed. Because of coronavirus related supplier issues, the automaker is predicting that buyers won’t receive their Bronco until sometime next summer. The bad news, however, is that the 2021 Ford Bronco is pretty much sold out. So, if you haven’t had a chance to reserve one for yourself, then you may be stuck waiting until the 2022 Ford Bronco makes its debut.
