The Ford F-150 is one of the most popular trucks on the market today. But it actually holds a more impressive accolade. Not only is the F-150 a popular truck, but it’s also one of America’s best-selling vehicles, period.

And despite its status as number one, the 2021 Ford F-150 is still less expensive than a few of its competitors, including the GMC Sierra.

The 2021 Ford F-150 is popular yet affordable

The 2021 Ford F-150 is still one of the best-selling trucks in the United States, MotorTrend confirmed. And one of the reasons for its popularity might have to do with its price point. Despite its stellar reputation, the F-150 is also one of the more affordable brand-new trucks: It starts around $30,600, including the destination fee.

This relatively low price point means many consumers who want a brand-new Ford F-150 can afford one. And that has undoubtedly helped this full-size pickup become a bestseller. That’s not the only reason the F-150 is such a popular truck, but it definitely adds to the numerous factors that favor it. Despite this, some F-150 competitors are still selling trucks at higher price points, including the GMC Sierra.

The 2021 GMC Sierra is actually more expensive than the Ford F-150

There are many ways businesses can compete with one another, and one of the more popular tactics is to sell products for less. But despite the Ford F-150’s dominance, GMC slapped a higher sticker price on its Sierra pickup.

According to MotorTrend, the Sierra costs about $31,700, including the destination fee, $1,100 more than the F-150. The Sierra is also priced about $1,100 more than its nearly identical GM cousin, the Chevy Silverado. So, not only is the Sierra pricier than the F-150 is, but it’s also even more expensive than basically the same truck but with a different name.

Despite its higher price, the Sierra falls short of the F-150 in terms of what it offers.

Why the 2021 F-150 is just better than the Sierra

Off the bat, for most folks who own a truck, the thing that matters most is what it can do. And in this sense, the F-150 can do more than the Sierra. The GMC pickup comes with a 4.3-liter V6 that gets about 285 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, while the Ford F-150 boasts a 3.3-liter V6 generating 290 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque. Though engine options abound for both trucks, the F-150 is the more powerful pickup without upgrades.

Furthermore, the F-150’s engine allows it to handle more work. The Sierra, when properly equipped, has a payload capacity of just over 2,100 pounds, and it can tow up to 12,100 pounds. However, the Ford F-150, when properly equipped, has a payload capacity of over 2,300 pounds and can tow a maximum of 13,200 pounds.

There are plenty of other differences between the two trucks, but the F-150 is better in practically every way for most truck lovers. Despite its supremacy, the F-150 still costs less than the Sierra. And that’s helped the Ford F-150 remain at the head of the pack.
