According to Cars.com, production of the 2021 Ford F-150 is being delayed due to the ongoing global microchip shortage. Ford is continuing to build F-150 and Edge models for now, but they will be manufactured without a few crucial parts.
As a result, the Ford Edge and F-150 models will be stored for a few weeks until the parts arrive. The parts will then be added to the vehicles, and they will undergo comprehensive quality checks before being shipped to dealerships.
Ford mentioned in a statement that the global semiconductor shortage alone with part shortages created by the central U.S. winter storm in February has prompted them to build the F-150 and Edge without certain parts, including some electric modules that contain scarce semiconductors.
The delays will cause Ford to hold vehicles for a number of weeks. It’s unclear how long the delays will last. Ford also canceled three shifts at its assembly plant in Louisville, Kentucky, due to the chip shortage.
This is where the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair are manufactured. On a positive note, the delays haven’t begun to impact dealership inventory, and thousands of 2021 Ford F-150 models are still available.
Ford F-150 quality issues
According to Car Buzz, Ford has a history of launching products that are plagued with problems, like the redesigned Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator. Now the redesigned 2021 Ford F-150 is being delivered to significant rust corrosion on critical parts such as the axle.
One Ford F-150 owner from Michigan discovered water dripping from the metal components of their truck that left dark stains on the garage floor after only having his truck for a few days. Then he noticed a significant amount of rust. But his 2016 ford F-150 didn’t have any rust after being driven for about 65,000 miles.
This guy isn’t alone. A number of others have complained about their F-150 models arriving with premature rust, but Ford says it’s fine. It’s only surface rust and will have no impact on the part performance or life. They are also trying to find the source of rust.
Ford F-150 Recalls
The 2021 Ford F-150 has already had a safety recall. According to U.S. News, ford issues a recall for 2021 F-150, and 2020 – 2021 F-150, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks due to windshield problems.
During the manufacturing process, the windshield may not have been properly bonded to the vehicle, allowing it to become detached during an accident. If the windshield detaches during a wreck, then it may increase the risk of injuries.
