For decades, a manual transmission offered better performance as well as better fuel savings than its counterpart the automatic did. Nowadays, though, automatics have come a long way. Now they can outperform a manual gearbox in most cases. Fuel efficiency ratings are usually higher in automatic systems as well. But there are still some people who prefer using a manual transmission over an automatic. If you are one of them, there are a few options for 2021, like the Genesis G70, that still carry them. MotorTrend put out their list of vehicles still offering stick shift. 

What can you find on the list of vehicles with a manual transmission?

Some of the market’s most popular vehicles can be found on this list. You’ll find the 2021 Ford Bronco with its 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine. This motor has an option for mating it to a seven-speed manual transmission. 

Then there’s the 2021 Chevy Spark. Although it sports a very weak engine, Chevy offers a manual gearbox as standard across the Spark line. Mating it to a 98 hp motor won’t gain you more power, but it still allows you to shift the gears yourself when driving. 

The Mazda3 is also on the list, even though it will be harder to get the manual transmission option. You will need to choose the front-wheel-drive version with the hatchback. Then you must add the high-end premium package to go along with it. It might be a little costly, but it’s still a way to get a manual if you choose to go that route. 

The most popular vehicle that offers a manual happens to be the Porsche 911. If you purchase this Porsche, a seven-speed manual transmission is available as an option for the Targa 4S. 

Why does the Genesis G70 stand out?

One of the most iconic features associated with the Genesis G70 happens to be its manual transmission. With its sportier styling, the manual gearbox complemented it well. We still see it in the 2021 model, which is great, but going forward, manual shifting will become obsolete. 

Still, even with the 2021 model, it’s a bit of a disappointment. In order to get the manual transmission, you will have to choose the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to pair with it. The more powerful V6 motor that puts out 365 hp will only be paired with the automatic transmission instead. 

What will the 2022 models of the G70 be like?

Without the manual transmission as an option, driving the G70 will feel a lot different for some people. But, for others, it won’t matter all that much. Many people seem to like the automatic gear shifting. Those who only opt for a manual gearbox have already gone through the disappointment of only being able to mate it with the less powerful engine. 

But the Genesis G70 will sport that 3.3-liter V6 that has Genesis fans excited to get their hands on. Having that beast of a motor installed on a Genesis G70 might make it worthwhile to pair it with an automatic after all. 

It’s also interesting to note that MotorTrend mentions there may not be as many vehicles built, for 2021, with the manual gearbox after all. It doesn’t appear sales figures show that it ever was all that popular to begin with. It might be that the manual transmission, dropping for the 2022 models, could go unnoticed or it could shake up very few people. 

It will be sad to see such an iconic feature for the G70 go, but it isn’t too large of a loss. The automatics these days offer better performance and fuel economy than most manual gearboxes do. It will just be the thrill of controlling your own shifting that hardcore enthusiasts will likely miss the most.
