The 2021 Geneva Motor Show is Already Canceled
The yearly Geneva International Motor Show is the event that many manufacturers and car enthusiasts look forward to every March. Whether you’ve ever attended or just viewed all of the awesome content from home, you know that the cars that make it to Geneva are going.
The Geneva International Motor Show
The annual Geneva International Motor Show is one of the biggest car shows of the year. In March of every year, the world’s biggest car manufacturers and tech companies come together to debut what they’ve been working on and developing. It is where companies like Koenigsegg debut cars like the Gemera, and where concept cars like the ItalDesign DaVinci take the stage. This past year, it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and manufacturers found a way to entertain guests from the safety of their homes.
Cancelations ahead of time
While the 2020 show was canceled relatively last minute due to the threat of a pandemic, that isn’t the case for the 2021 expo. In fact, there won’t be a show to cancel next year at all because the Committee and Council of the Foundation “Salon International de l’Automobile” have announced that they won’t be planning the 2021 Geneva International Motor Show at all.
This decision was made after the event organizers surveyed exhibitors, who responded that they weren’t planning on attending the show in 2021. With a lack of interest from the major companies involved, it was an easy decision for the team to make.
The future of the show
While it is a show, it is also a major source of income as many exhibitors pay top dollar to participate in the event. After the event cancelation last year, the Foundation was hemorrhaging money. It is unclear if the premature cancelation of the 2021 event is a sign of future distress or that it could even be the beginning of the end for the world-famous show in Geneva.
The future of the Geneva Motor Show might be questionable, but for now, we can just hope that the decision to cancel next year’s expo will only be one step in the event’s overall recovery.
