It seems like we have covered the Honda Civic Type R to no end and we have definitely given the Limited Edition its fair share of the spotlight, however, it’s time for some more. Honda recently released pricing for the Civic Type R Limited Edition, and while we had our speculations when we first caught wind of the yellow-painted street racer, the actual pricing numbers don’t really surprise us.

We were wrong about the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited’s pricing

Just to get things straight, we’re never afraid when we’re wrong about certain facts, but when we first wrote about the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition, we speculated based on what the regular one costs. For a recap, the current 2021 Honda Civic Type R does carry a slightly elevated price tag than the previous iterations, coming in at $37,950 (excluding destination). Using that pricing, we figured that Honda would likely price the Limited version closer to $50,000.

Can you really blame us? After all, anyone who has purchased a Honda Civic Type R in the past couple years is obviously accustomed to paying lots of money for a high-dollar Civic, so what’s another $10,000 for a special paint job? But, we were wrong. Honda just announced that the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition is priced at $43,995. That’s not bad, especially if you were expecting it to cost around $50,000.

What does the extra $6,000 get you?

We agree that paying $6,000 more to get a “Limited Edition” designation is a tall order, however, this special Civic Type R is more than just the Phoenix Yellow paint that it wears. Under the hood, you’ll find the same 306-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine, but what you don’t see is the extra weight savings that Honda included. The Civic Type R LE has 28 pounds of sound deadening removed from its front fenders, roof, rear hatch panel, and even the dash to make it go just a little faster.

The weight savings didn’t end there, though, an additional 18 pounds of unsprung weight was shaved off thanks to a set of lightweight BBS forged-aluminum wheels that are wrapped in a set of super-sticky Michelin Cup 2 performance tires. Altogether, the Civic Type R Limited has proven that “light is right” when it comes to racing and adding horsepower isn’t always completely necessary.

Regardless of the extra money, it is a race-winning formula

In case you’re still not convinced that the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition isn’t worth the extra cash, just keep in mind that it laid down a faster lap time around the Suzuka Circuit, beating the Ferrari F40. On top of that, Honda only plans to build 600 copies of this ultra-rare car, so in case you do have the means to buy one, it could prove to be quite the collection piece later on. But you better act fast as the buyer list in Canada was filled in just 240 seconds.
