The 2021 Hyundai Veloster’s standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, forward collision warning, driver drowsiness monitoring, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and blind-spot mirrors, according to U.S. News.

In addition to the list of standard safety features, on higher trim levels, the Veloster also offers blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, pedestrian detection, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The 2021 Hyundai Veloster

U.S. News found the 2021 Veloster to be “a fun compact car to drive,” giving it an overall score of 8.2 out of 10. The 2021 Veloster comes standard with an inline-four-cylinder engine, producing 147 hp. The optional engine is more powerful. The three Turbo trims have a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, generating 201 hp. The Veloster comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission. The standard engine has an available six-speed automatic transmission, and the turbocharged engine has an available seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

U.S. News found the infotainment system intuitive to use. The system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Veloster also has supportive seats in the front, although its rear seats are small, according to U.S. News. It has one door on the driver side and two doors on the passenger side, making it easier for people to get into the back seats from the passenger side.

The Veloster doesn’t have great fuel efficiency, and some of its materials are of lower quality than that of competing vehicles. It does have a large cargo area but a little less than other hatchbacks. It provides 19.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats or 44.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. The mixed review lands the 2021 Veloster tied for fourth on U.S. News’ list of compact cars.

Different configurations you can buy

The 2021 Hyundai Veloster has five trim levels listed on the Hyundai website: 2.0, 2.0 Premium, Turbo R-Spec, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate. The 2.0 has a starting price of $18,900. It comes with the base engine and six-speed manual transmission. For an extra $1,000 buyers can switch to a six-speed automatic transmission. It has a seven-inch touchscreen, cloth upholstery, and a six-way manually adjustable driver’s seat.

The 2.0 Premium trim starts at $23,100. It also has the base engine but comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission including paddle shifters. It has a larger 8-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, an eight-speaker stereo, voice recognition, and satellite radio. It also provides cloth and leather upholstery, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated front seats, a sunroof, automatic climate control, and proximity keyless entry. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are added to the list of standard safety features.

The Turbo R-Spec trim, which starts at $23,450, upgrades to the turbocharged engine and a six-speed manual transmission. An automatic transmission is not available for this trim level. The R-Spec is similar to the 2.0 Premium, with a few alterations. It has a sport shifter, sport-tuned steering, performance tires, and LED headlights and taillights. It does not provide a sunroof, heated front seats, or wireless charging.

The Turbo trim starts at $25,750. It has a turbocharged engine along with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Otherwise, it has most of the features offered with both the 2.0 Premium and the Turbo R-Spec.

The top Turbo Ultimate trim starts at $28,450. It includes leather upholstery, navigation, and HD Radio. It adds the safety features of pedestrian detection, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

This very affordable compact car starts at $18,900. Its higher four trim levels start between $23,000 and $28,500. There is also the high-performance Veloster N, starting at $32,250. With its many standard safety features, the 2021 Hyundai Veloster offers buyers plenty of value along with practicality and fun driving.
