The 2021 Jaguar XF: Add Luxury, Subtract Engines, Price and the Wagon
While its classic models get replicated, Jaguar’s latest cars aren’t always rated highly in testing. For example, the Jaguar XF mid-size sedan, despite offering impressive horsepower, isn’t quite as luxurious as its rivals. Luckily, it’s getting updated for the 2021 model year. Unfortunately, that update comes with some cut options.
The Jaguar XF gets updated looks and luxury for 2021
Part of the Jaguar XF’s 2021 update is its design, which features elements to the recently-updated F-Pace and discontinued XJ, Motor Trend reports. On the outside, that means LED headlights and running lights, a new grille, new bumpers, and new taillights. There’s also an optional exterior package that blacks-out parts of the trim, Roadshow reports.
The Jaguar XF’s interior has also been updated for 2021. It has a new dashboard that resembles the one in the F-Pace, Autoblog reports. The infotainment screen is larger, at 11.4”, and it features an updated OS with over-the-air update capability. It can also link to your Microsoft or Google calendar, Hagerty reports. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
The 2021 Jaguar XF has more standard features, such as active noise cancellation, proximity entry, wireless phone charging, and a 12-speaker Meridian audio system. A surround-view camera is standard, too. The clear-exit monitoring system, which alerts occupants of rear-approaching cyclists or pedestrians, is optional, though.
The sedan also offers a digital instrument cluster and ambient lighting, Car and Driver, and Motor1 report. And in addition to new open-pore wood and aluminum trim, the sedan has wider seats with larger heated and cooled areas.
But it also loses an engine and the wagon model
Unfortunately, the Jaguar XF loses its optional supercharged V6 for 2021. And it’s fairly likely that the US won’t receive the mild-hybrid diesel model sold in Europe, Top Gear reports.
The only engine-and-transmission combo available is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic. In the Jaguar XF P250 models, the engine makes 246 hp and 269 lb-ft. In the P300 R-Dynamic SE, that’s bumped up to 296 hp and 295 lb-ft. Rear-wheel drive is standard on the P250 models, and AWD is optional. However, the P300 is AWD-only.
That’s only the first loss, though; the second is the wagon model. Although the Jaguar XF Sportbrake will still be offered in Europe, the US model has been officially canceled. Admittedly, it never sold particularly well here, Road & Track reports. In the 3 years it’s been on sale, Jaguar sold just 250 examples. That makes it rarer than a LaFerrari and the Lexus LFA.
The 2021 Jaguar XF is cheaper because of the XE
Fortunately, the 2021 Jaguar XF is getting a price cut, Car and Driver reports. The base P250 S model starts at $45,145—a $7105 decrease. And the 2021 P300 R-Dynamic is $8555 cheaper, with a starting price of $51,145.
However, the cheaper prices are due to another loss. The entry-level Jaguar XE is also being canceled for 2021, R&T reports. So, until the next-gen XJ debuts, that leaves Jaguar with just one sedan: the XF. Though as it stands, it’s far behind the brand’s best-seller, the F-Pace, R&T reports.
Let’s see if these updates and price cuts are enough to keep the Jaguar XF prowling on US soil.
