Jeep has been on a desperate sprint to join the fancy truck club. The rough and tumble Wrangler has cameras and leather now, and finding anything with three pedals is a chore. So, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee was gonna hit the streets with flossy new digs. I wasn’t prepared for just how flossy, though. 

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee redesigned?

Uh, yeah. Big time. When I first saw the photo of the new Grand Cherokee’s interior, I thought, “Oh snap, Hyundai or someone is flexing, again.” Come to find out, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee is far from the one I grew up with as a kid. 

Even though the Jeep name was built up from the mud and that mud has been formed into decorative pavers for a fancy garden. The Grand Cherokee is taking the “grand” part pretty seriously, it seems. The Jeep’s interior is slathered in textured leather, wood, metal, screens, knobs, and all other manner of fancy appointments. 

What features does the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s interior have?

As reported by Car and Driver, Jeep fitted its fancy boy with a high-end audio system and the latest FCA Uconnect infotainment system with the 10-inch screen. The head of Advanced Interior Designs at FCA, Chris Benjamin, said, “While the Jeep Grand Cherokee interior has been synonymous with sophistication, our approach to the three-row version was to showcase distinguished details, handcrafted materials, and modern amenities that pair seamlessly with its tailored exterior.”

Let’s look at some details 

The seats are beautifully draped in stitched leather making diamond patterns on the seats’ wings and door panels. With this stitched tan leather along with metal trim and wood accents, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee truly looks upscale. Not only does it come with wood trim, but you can choose between Absolute Oak or Waxed Walnut, depending on which trim level you go with. What is this, a Rolls Royce?

Car and Driver says that the Summit Reserve gets that beautiful quilted Palermo leather seats and door panels. I’ll be honest, dear reader, I am a sucker for quilted leather. On the Overland (come on, Jeep) and the Summit models, the front two seats get 16-way adjustments. Every trim level has the option to have the middle-row seats heated and vented. To finish off the family hauler’s comfort flex, the Grand Cherokee has 12 USB ports throughout. 

The new interior isn’t just wood and leather

Jeep equipped the new three-row SUV with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through the Uconnect 5 infotainment interface. Bluetooth is ubiquitous with being a pain in the ass, but this new Jeep has two Bluetooth receivers that allow switching between media quickly and easily. The big Jeep will also feature a digital review mirror for the first time in Jeep history. Like most digital mirrors, it can be a regular analog mirror or a screen for the backup camera. 

Earlier I mentioned the exclusive audio system, and I won’t leave y’all hanging. Car and Driver reports that the Grand Cherokee L will have a McIntosh system. If you don’t know this name, McIntosh is the Ferrari of audio equipment. Seeing this equipment in a car is like seeing a Lay-Z-Boy in a car. McIntosh receivers and amps are typically seen in the homes of very-high-end audiophile setups. Jeep is the first company to work with McIntosh for a car sound system. 

The 19-speaker collection will execute the McIntosh system throughout the Jeep’s cabin along with a 10-inch subwoofer. A 950-watt amplifier with 17 channels will power the system. 

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is a new breed

Jeep has made quite the statement with this luxury three-row SUV. It may say Jeep, it may look kind of Jeep-y, but this is not what most of us are used to from the 4×4 icon. Do you, Jeep.
