Jeep is the black sheep of the automotive world, but the Renegade might be the black sheep of its own family. The 2021 Jeep Renegade is included in the brand’s 80th birthday celebration, but barely.

For a manufacturer known for rugged SUVs, the Jeep Renegade doesn’t seem to fit the company’s playbook. Sure, the Renegade is capable, but its diminutive size and polished style stand out from the traditional Jeep image.

With drastically fewer upgrades included in this Special Edition Renegade, is the model really worthy of the moniker “special,” and what features set it apart from any other trim level in its lineup? 

What’s included?

Sadly, the headliner of the 2021 Jeep Renegade 80th Anniversary Edition may, in fact, be the headliner. Unique to this edition, the headliner dons a black hue – a trait this subcompact SUV shares with the 80th Anniversary Edition Jeep Compass and Jeep Cherokee.

Additionally, Anodized Gunmetal accents are scattered throughout the cabin, and berber floor mats are included.

This special-edition Renegade can don the available Granite Crystal paint color and commemorative badging, as is the case with all 80th Anniversary Edition models throughout the Jeep lineup. Meanwhile, its 19-inch wheels are available in the same shade.

Buyers can otherwise opt to get their 2021 Jeep Renegade 80th Anniversary Edition in Black, Alpine White, Jetset Blue, Colorado Red, Slate Blue, Bikini (teal), or Omaha Orange. Other notable features in this trim include dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen display, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Car shoppers can expect to find these 4×4 special-edition models available at a starting MSRP of $27,595.

Other special-edition 2021 Jeep Renegade models to consider

Those who want a little more flair have other options available to them. The 2021 Jeep Renegade has several other special-edition models that car shoppers can consider. 

The Jeepster Edition is new for 2021 with premium 19-inch wheels, a unique door decal, gloss black grille rings, and black cloth seats with Ski Grey accent stitching. This model is based on the Sport trim, and it starts at an MSRP of $24,970.

Meanwhile, the Islander Edition, which is based on the Laredo trim, is adding tropical flavor to the 2021 Jeep Renegade. Its exterior is decked out with 19-inch silver-painted aluminum wheels and an Islander hood decal. Inside, you’ll find special embroidered seatbacks with ‘Tiki Bob’ seat tags and Surf Blue accent stitching, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof to let in the rays.

Is the 2021 Jeep Renegade 80th Anniversary Edition worth the price?

Of the 2021 Renegade special editions coming to market, the 2021 Jeep Renegade 80th Anniversary Trim falls short. The lack of genuinely exclusive accessories, features, and amenities featured in the production of this trim rings hollow. This is especially true when compared to the likes of the Islander Edition or the Jeep Wrangler 80th Anniversary Edition. 

One would do well to consider whether these small additions are worth the price tag that accompanies them or adds real value to the driving experience before purchasing.
