Holy moly! If you want the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392, then hold on to your wallet. This new V8-powered Jeep Wrangler doesn’t come cheap. Other SUVs and trucks have V8 engines and won’t break the bank, so is the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 overpriced?

Is the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 worth buying?

Of course, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is worth buying. It’s the most potent Jeep Wrangler ever. However, according to Motor Authority, it begins at around $74,995. This is an incredibly high price for a mid-size SUV.

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX begins around $69,995, and it’s a full-size truck. The MSRP of the 2021 Chevy Tahoe Z71, which is the off-roading trim, is $59,200. That’s also a full-size SUV. Also, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon begins at about $38,875. So, you can save thousands if you don’t opt for V8 power.

Why is the Rubicon 392 so expensive?

Well, the 392 refers to the cubic-inch measurement of the 6.4-liter V8 that provides 470-hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivered the maxim amount of acceleration at launch.

It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and sprints over a quarter-mile in 13.0 seconds. This is a pretty significant increase over the 3.6-liter engine with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It’s also about 40-percent faster.

But the Ram 1500 TRX has a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque for a lower price. It can also accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and races the quarter-mile in 12.7 seconds.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 might not have the launch control system found in the Ram 1500 TRX either. The all-terrain tires also have a limited speed of 99 mph, but different tires could go faster.

On a positive note, the hood that’s borrowed from the Jeep Gladiator Mojave solved cooling issues. It has a secondary air path built into the hood so the engine can continue running even if the hood scoop is blocked by mud and debris.

Does the Rubicon 392 have off-roading upgrades?

Yes, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 also has a few off-roading upgrades. For example, this Jeep Wrangler has an active dual-mode exhaust with quad exhaust pipes. This means people will hear your rumbling monster Jeep coming.

The Rubicon 392 also has stronger engine mounts, frame rails, front upper control arms, and cast-iron steering knuckles to handle the extra weight and torque. There are upgraded brakes to help this beast stop, and specially tuned Fox monotube shocked enhance weight distribution.

You may notice that the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 is taller, thanks to its two-inch lift. This improves the approach angle to 44.5 degrees and departure angle to 37.5 degrees, which is a .5 degree increase. However, the ground clearance has been lowered to 10.3-inches.

The Selec-Trac active transfer case is the same, but the water fording depth has been increased to 32.5-inches. It has a locking differential in the front and rear, heavy-duty wide track Dana 44 axles, transmission torque converter lockup control, and a 3.73 final drive ratio.

So the price tag basically covers the increased speed, water fording depth, and strengthened components. But does it really have to cost over $70,000? The fastest Jeep ever is also the most expensive.
