SUVs come in all varieties, shapes, and sizes these days. Subcompact, compact, midsize, and large crossovers make it easier for consumers to choose the perfect size for their needs. Some are better for comfortably seating seven people or at saving money at the gas pump.

Others seem like they’re born to conquer tough terrain and blaze trails. One recent best-of list showcases SUVs in a different light, outside of the traditional practicality, comfort, or affordability ranks. This roster of SUVs highlights some of the most fun to drive. And one crossover that joins the funnest of the fun is the 2021 Kia Soul GT Line Turbo. It has too much personality to be boring, and there’s quite possibly a good reason they call it the Kia Soul.

Motor Trend took a step away from the traditional vehicle compilations and put together a roster of fun-to-drive SUVs. Coming in fourth on this list of the least boring is the quirky 2021 Kia Soul GT Line Turbo.

Complimenting the extra muscle that the GT Line Turbo brings to the table, the reviewers say this “family-friendly compact” is anything but a bore. With its 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, this funky crossover can harness 201 horses and offer 195 lb-ft of torque.

The seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission makes the surging power feel effortless. Driving this SUV won’t inspire you to take any naps, and it may even have you feel like letting your hair down. 

SUVs don’t have to be boring grocery-getters

There’s a growing trend among automakers to spice up the personality in functional and practical SUV lineups. Some of the other performance-laden finalists on this Motor Trend list include the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler, and the 2021 Dodge Durango R/T. Even the 2021 Mazda CX-5 Turbo earns a spot as a crossover that won’t put you to sleep behind the wheel.

What makes the 2021 Kia Soul GT so much fun

Car and Driver says the 2021 Kia Soul “puts the ‘fun’ in funky,” and Edmunds remarks that it’s “surprisingly fun to drive.” But what is it about this distinctly boxy styled crossover that makes it so much fun?

If you’re not getting the GT Line Turbo, you’ll still have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and 147 horses, with the LX, X-Line, S, and EX. And while it may be boxy, the Kia Soul is anything but square.

With unique colors, like Neptune Blue, Undercover Green, and Mars Orange, you can add more personality to your already sassy Soul.

Personality should be its own feature

This Motor Trend list of a few of the least boring and more mainstream SUVs on the market demonstrates there’s more to SUVs than function or family hauling.

Sure, checking the reviews for the best in class towing or most comfortable rides for seven passengers is important. And the 2021 Kia Soul GT Line Turbo has plenty of traditional perks including, LED headlights, heads-up display, Android and Apple connectivity, heated steering wheel, and the Premium Harman Kardon audio platform.

But there are some SUVs that just seem to also exude personality, and none more so than the Soul. It makes you wonder why personality isn’t a listed feature on the window sticker. 

The 2021 Kia Soul is one of the least boring SUVs you can buy today. It checks all the boxes, too, including practical, affordable, fuel-efficient, and roomy. But it also brings a little something extra to those who own it.
