The 2021 Lexus UX Sport Edition Doesn’t Actually Add Any Sport

Lexus produces high-quality vehicles. The Lexus UX SUV is no exception. This coming year a Sports Edition will arrive for the SUV, but unfortunately, it’s only for the European market. The biggest problem with the Lexus UX Sport Edition is that it’s not really sporty at all.

MotorTrend reports the UX 250h and the UX 200 will have the Sport Edition trim available in the European market for 2021. There are some cool, new features coming with it, but it looks like it may be lacking.  Let’s take a look at what the Sport Edition will offer and what European drivers can expect.

What features are added to the Lexus UX with the Sport Edition?

Europe’s drivers will gain some interesting features if they choose the Lexus UX Sport Edition. Starting with the exterior of the vehicle, Lexus will add dark accent pieces to the styling of the unusual SUV.

The front grille and the side mirror housings are all black. Lexus will also offer the roof rails in the all-black color as well. Even the headlight housings will have a darker color to match the sporty styling of the rest of the vehicle.

The interior will also receive some nice upgrades. Lexus added a black, faux-leather upholstery dubbed the Tahara. Sprinkled throughout the cabin will be some gray and blue-colored accent pieces to give it a sportier look. To top it off, Lexus provides a hand-stitched leather steering wheel for a touch of luxuriousness in an all-sporty interior look.

When it comes to performance, though, the only feature seen with the Sport Edition is the optional dark gray 17-inch wheels and 18-inch black alloy wheels. There will be no special upgrades under the hood to boost its performance.

So, what is powering the Lexus UX Sport Edition then?

According to Lexus, under the hood, you’ll only find a 2.0-liter gasoline engine for the UX200 Sport Edition package, and a 2.0-liter gasoline and electric motor hybrid combination on the UX Hybrid.

The UX 250h has self-charging hybrid technology. That means that the on-board battery will charge itself as you drive down the road. It will also charge itself up when you slow down and brake while driving.

Lexus reports this technology won’t need an outlet to plug into, but it’s more of the driving process that will help slightly charge the battery as you go along. Having the hybrid powertrain will keep the most harmful emissions from getting into the environment and will help you save money on fuel.

What will it offer as far as technology goes?

The Sport Edition comes with the same Lexus Link app that you find with other Lexus vehicles. It allows you to schedule service visits for the SUV, learn your driving skills, and plot out your next long-distance journey so you can save the most money. It also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well.

The UX Sport Edition comes with the Share to Car and Car to Door features that Lexus offers many of its vehicles. These apps allow you to plan a trip on your phone while relaxing in your home. You can then upload it to the car without having to input it a second time.

The Lexus UX Sport Edition offers a lot of sporty looks to the vehicle, but it doesn’t actually offer any performance boosters, which we often expect with a sporty package. Those who live in European countries will enjoy the luxuriousness this model offers
