The 2021 Mazda CX-3 Comes Equipped to Put Your Safety First
Mazda takes safety pretty seriously. That’s no different when it comes to the 2021 Mazda CX-3. This year’s model is absolutely brimming with standard safety features, driver-assist features included. With so many standard safety features to its name, the 2021 Mazda CX-3 was able to score some pretty impressive crashworthiness scores too.
2021 Mazda CX-3 standard safety features
The 2021 Mazda CX-3 makes nary a compromise when it comes to standard safety features. All CX-3 models come outfitted with standard safety features such as three-point seat belts for all seating positions, advanced front airbags, front side-impact airbags, and side-impact air curtains with rollover protection. The CX-3 is also standard with an anti-lock brake system with brake assist, dynamic stability control, a traction control system, hill launch assist, and a rearview camera.
As for standard driver-assist features? Well, the new Mazda CX-3 aims to please when it comes to these kinds of safety features. All models come standard with confidence-inspiring driver-assist features like blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, advanced smart city brake support with day and night time pedestrian detection, smart brake support with collision warnings, radar cruise control, and lane-departure warnings.
How the 2021 Mazda CX-3 did in crashworthiness tests
Fortunately for the 2021 Mazda CX-3, its long list of standard safety features paid off in the end. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2021 Mazda CX-3 earned itself a five-star overall safety rating. The CX-3 did, however, struggle in the NHTSA’s side barrier rear passenger tests. While it earned a five-star rating, the NHTSA noted the following:
“Due to the intrusion of the left rear door during the side impact test, the interior door panel struck the torso of the rear passenger dummy, causing a high lower spine acceleration. High lower spine accelerations, in excess of 82 g’s, indicate a higher likelihood of thoracic injury.”
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) put the 2021 Mazda CX-3 through its own crashworthiness tests. It earned a ‘Good’ score in all of the IIHS’ crashworthiness tests. However, it did earn an ‘Acceptable’ rating for its headlights and LATCH ease of use. That didn’t stop the IIHS from naming the new CX-3 a Top Safety Pick+ for the 2021 model year, though.
This year’s CX-3 is also a pretty reliable SUV
Impressive safety ratings aren’t all that the 2021 Mazda CX-3 has going for it either. When it comes to this Mazda, you can also count on it to be pretty reliable too. According to Consumer Reports, this year’s model earned itself a five out of five predicted reliability rating. When taking into account its high safety ratings and predicted reliability, there’s no denying that the new Mazda CX-3 has plenty going for it.
Is the Mazda CX-3 a good SUV?
