The 2021 Mazda CX-30 Snagged a Major Safety Award

How safe is the 2021 Mazda CX-30?
According to Property Casualty 360, the 2021 Mazda CX-30 is the safest small SUV that can buy. The Mazda CX-30 came in first place out of 22 options to earn this title. The vehicle in last place is the Fiat 500X, and the vehicle in second place is the 2021 Nissan Rogue.
You can view the list of the safest small SUVs from IIHS here. According to the IIHS President, David Harkey, manufacturers have stepped up to meet the challenge of winning Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards.
Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands, has the most Top Safety Pick awards with 12 qualifying vehicles. Volvo has the most Top Safety Pick+ awards with nine qualifying options. However, the Mazda CX-30 is safer than any other small SUV.
How did the Mazda CX-30 perform in safety tests?
To earn Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards, vehicles must provide good protection during crashes, sufficient lighting, and effective front crash protection. They must earn good ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests, including driving and passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof, strength, and head restraints.
Award winners must be available with front crash prevention to earn superior or advanced ratings in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. Also, Top Safety Pick winners have to be available with good to acceptable headlights. The Plus designation is awarded to models with good or acceptable headlights across all trim levels or packages.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 passed these tests with flying colors. It earned a Good rating for its roof strength, small overlap front driver’s side crashes, frontal crash prevention, and more. When it comes to effectively avoiding collisions, the Mazda CX-30 was able to avoid wrecks at 12, 25, and 37 mph.
The only section of the test that the Mazda CX-30 didn’t excel in was in one area of headlight testing. The Premium trim built before October 2020 received a poor rating because the low beams created excessive glare. But this issue has been corrected. Premium trim models built after September 2020 received a good overall rating.
What safety features are standard with the Mazda CX-30?
According to Car Buzz, the 2021 Mazda CX-30 comes standard with a ton of safety features. It has smart brake support, driver attention alert, lane-keeping assistance, and lane departure warning.
If you move up in trim levels, you also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assistance, and an active driving display. The top-tier trim also provides a surround-view camera.
The new i-Activesense package includes reversing smart brake support and rear-cross-traffic braking. You get front and rear parking sensors with this package too. Because the Mazda CX-30 only begins at about $22,050, it’s one heck of a safe bargain.
