It was tragic news for Mercedes-Benz fans when the news hit that the German automaker is cutting cars to make room for more SUVs and crossovers. Not all cars are being cut, however, and the Mercedes-AMG GT is still going to be an option for drivers. In fact, it’s getting some major updates. MotorTrend reports that the 2021 model will be faster and more loaded than ever.

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT gets updated

There have been a few updates to the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT that are very exciting. The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine remains, but its horsepower has been revved up by 54 hp. This brings the horsepower up to 523 hp.

The speed is also better than ever. Mercedes reports that drivers can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. This is about 0.2 seconds faster than the 2020 model, which can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. 

These estimates might not be accurate, however. MotorTrend reported they were able to push a 503-hp 2016 GT S coupe in 3.5 seconds, so the 2021 model might be able to do so even faster.

There are also some other features. According to MotorTrend, “these include adaptive dampers (known by Mercedes as AMG Ride Control), an electronic limited-slip differential, and larger front brakes from the 2020 GT C with red-painted calipers. There’s also a new ‘Race’ drive setting and lithium-ion starter battery.”

The Stealth Mode is out of this world

The Stealth Mode is so dark, it’s worthy of being driven by Batman. Or perhaps James Bond. It comes complete with dark accents on the exterior along with a twitch dark chrome grille, darkened headlamps, and black brake calipers. 

For owners who prefer a coupe, the roof is made of carbon fiber. It also has dark tinting that is slightly blacker than the body of the coupe.

The drop-top Roadster has a black soft top. Black and gray paint options are available to change things up a little. 

The dark trend continues into the interior as well. The leather seats are plump and cushiony. A diamond quilting gives it a sophisticated look. Drivers also have a choice between black piano trim and carbon-fiber trim. For those who like to show off the fact that they have a special addition vehicle, there is a badge in the center console that will announce it loud and clear.

The price is still an unknown

We don’t know how much the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT costs yet, but we do know how much the 2020 models costs. The GT coupe starts at $116,895. The GT Roadster is even more expensive at $128,895.

The GT R Pro coupe is the most expensive 2020 model available. It starts at $200,645. That’s before you start adding in extra features, of course.

MotorTrend believes the price for the 2021 model will be “north of $115,000.” It might be even more than that given some of the new features. We don’t have anything to base the Stealth mode off of, since it’s the first edition, but it’s safe to say it’s not going to be cheap.

This places it well out of the budget for many families, but for those who can afford it, the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT is completely worth the wait. It will be available for purchase sometime in early 2021. 

If you want a GT, you might not want to wait. In 2020, Car and Driver reports, “Mercedes will only build 750 examples of the GT R roadster and 150 examples of the GT R Pro, assuring their exclusivity.”

While it hasn’t been reported that Mercedes will do so again, chances are likely it might do so with the Stealth Mode. If that’s the case, buy it while you can.
