When the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E first made its debut, it was met with some resistance. Ford Mustang fans were shocked by the new four-door design that went against the classic style and nature that they’re used to. However, that didn’t stop people from buying it.

We know that judging the way a vehicle looks is pretty subjective. Some people will love it, and others will hate it. However, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E received both praise and negative feedback about its looks, and the classic muscle car fans were a little shocked.
Auto News shared a few of the negative comments. For example, Mike Sutton from Car and Driver shared that the Mustang Mach-E looks halfway decent for how shamelessly its designers raided the Mustang’s Styling Portfolio. He also mentioned that the sight of a galloping pony badge on a near-silent mall pony is cringe-worthy.
Peter M. Delorenzo shared that calling this frumpy-looking crossover a Mustang is so egregiously wrong, that it makes him cringe. He knows Mustangs, and the Mach-E is no d#$% Mustang.
There are plenty of positives mentioned in this list too. People enjoy the futuristic loo that displays Ford’s promise to their EV program. Also, it has elegant design features that are reminiscent of the classic design.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E sales bump
The negative comments haven’t held the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E from greatness. According to Torque News, the Mustang Mach-E hit record-breaking sales in February. Sales were up 56.1 percent compared to last year, with 9,267 vehicles sold.
February was its first full month of sales, and Ford moved 3,739 Mustang Mach-E models. About 70 percent of sales came from competitive brands, and about one-fifth of the sales come from California. Even with the Ford Mustang Mach-E recall to tighten subframe bolts, after a subcontractor failed to tighten them, sales kept stampeding along.
Ford’s retail share is hovering around 12 percent compared to 11.7 percent last year. Andrew Frick, the Vice President of Ford sales in the U.S. and Canada, shared that Ford had the most SUV sales during February that they’ve had in 20 years. He attributes the success to the Ford Bronco Sport and Mach-E.
Is the Mustang Mach-E a good car?
Yes, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is an excellent option. It does have an MSRP of about $42,895, though. The high price can turn people away, but it may include enough goodies to be worth it.
Car and Driver recommend spending a little more to go with the Premium trim that begins around $48,100. It gets an estimated 305 miles of range when paired with rear-wheel drive and the extended battery. But all-wheel drive is also preferred, and it knocks the range down to about 270 miles.
With the extended-range 98.8 kWh battery pack, the motors combine to create 480 hp and 634 lb-ft of torque. Less powerful versions have between 266 to 346 hp and between 317 to 428 lb-ft of torque. Each option is pretty sporty.
