Owners of hybrid vehicles have a lot in common. They are passionate about the environment and strive to make the world a better place. There is a certain coolness factor to owning a hybrid like the Porsche Panamera 4S E-Hybrid. Several A-list Hollywood stars are getting caught up in the trend and becoming owners of hybrid vehicles.

There is one thing, though, that is a rather strange trait of hybrid owners. Anyone that owns an electric vehicle can attest to this fact.

The weirdest thing about hybrid owners

Porsche figured out this trait and has found a way to satisfy owners of the all-new 2021 Porsche Panamera 4S E-Hybrid. The luxury carmaker is so in tune with what consumers want that other leading auto companies may not be too far behind in providing this feature in upcoming models.

Hybrid vehicle owners like to monitor how much money they’re saving on gas. Considering the high cost of the vehicle in the first place, it seems like an odd thing to worry about. But, ask any hybrid owner, and they will agree that they spend an unusual amount of time trying to determine their fuel economy and savings.

Monitoring hybrid performance in the 2021 Porsche Panamera 4S E-Hybrid

The 2021 Porsche Panamera 4S E-Hybrid features tons of ways to monitor hybrid performance. MotorTrend refers to the luxury vehicle as “a turbo for the geek squad.”

The Panamera provides infotainment screen options that allow drivers to monitor their fuel consumption. These options include detailed consumption statistics, charging timers, hybrid modes, and energy flow analysis.

An arc is located inside the speedometer to show the accelerator position in relation to the exact moment in which the engine fires. An identical arc on the fuel and battery gauge display indicates the electric boost power that is available in the selected drive mode. The gray arc turns green when the boost mode is engaged.

Optimizing the Porsche Panamera 4s E-Hybrid’s performance

The twin-turbocharged V6 engine in the 2021 Porsche Panamera 4S E-Hybrid offers 443 hp with 405 lb-ft of torque. The luxury sedan can hit 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds with a top track speed of 185 mph. The electric motor gets up to 134 hp with 295 lb-ft of torque. The maximum power combined is an astounding 552 horsepower.

To optimize hybrid performance, there is an E-Power driving mode that reads navigational information to predict power strategies and provide the most efficient system operation. The E-Hold Mode allows the battery to maintain its current charge. The E-Charge Mode increases the charge rate from the gas engine to 7.2 kW, helping the battery achieve an 80 percent charge in a quick and efficient manner.

Fuel economy, range, and pricing

For most owners of the 2021 Porsche Panamera 4S E-Hybrid, money is no object. Saving money on gas is not high on their priority list, even though they do find satisfaction in determining their fuel economy savings.

The 2021 Porsche Panamera 4S E-Hybrid, which replaces the current Turbo model, won’t be available in the United States until the spring of next year. Pricing for 2021 has not yet been released. The starting price for the base 2020 Panamera S model is $105,150. The 4S has a starting price of $118,500. That’s almost a 25 percent savings in comparison to the Turbo model that has a starting price of $154,350.

The fuel tank on the 4S E-Hybrid is 21.1 gallons. The EPA-estimated fuel economy is 21/24/23 mpg for gas and 48/54/51 mpg for gas and electric. The electric power is increasing on the 2021 Panamera from 14.1 kWh to a 17.9-kilowatt-hour battery. Recalibrated drive modes and the larger battery should substantially increase the pure electric range.
