The 2021 Ram 1500 Gains Advanced Trailering Tech and More
If you’re a tech nerd, then the 2021 Ram 1500 might be the best truck option for you to buy, as it gains even more features. The 2020 Ram 1500 is already noted for having the class-leading interior and tech, but Ram is taking things to another level for 2021.
2021 Ram 1500 towing tech additions
While all of the truck attention seems to be on the Ram 1500 TRX and Ford Raptor, the 2021 Ram 1500 has been hiding under the radar. But new spy shots suggest that the 2021 model will have significant tech upgrades.
The 2021 Ram 1500 prototype was spotted driving around Detroit with a Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) with a high-definition camera system on the rear. This means that a camera is mounted at the top of the LED brake light to provide a view of the cargo bed.
The tow mirrors also had a 360-view camera system, which is a feature that was exclusive to heavy-duty Ram trucks. So, we can speculate that you will be able to see all around your truck with multiple camera views. This will enhance parking, hitching to trailers, and show you where your tires will land while off-roading.
Whispers about a new trailer control steering system are surfacing as well. The system will automatically assist you with backing your trailer up by turning the wheels in the proper direction.
This not only helps those who are new to towing, but provides convenience after a long day of hauling because all you have to do is twist a knob in the direction that you want the trailer to go.
More 2021 Ram 1500 tech additions
Fiat Chrysler Auto (FCA) is releasing a new Unconnect Heads Up Display system that may debut with the Ram 1500. Initially, it was expected to come out with the 2022 Grand Jeep Cherokee instead.
However, not much information has been released about what will be included with the new system. It will be included with the revised Technology Group (ADL) package for 2021. The 2021 Ram 1500 technology package is expected to include:
- An LED CHMSL Lamp
- Auto-Dimming Rear-View Mirrors
- A Heads up Display
Spot shots had the interior of the 2021 Ram 1500 hidden under covers, so it wasn’t clear what goodies aside from the heads up display could be hiding under there. However, we doubt any changes have been made to the 12-inch vertical infotainment center display.
What else to expect for the 2021 Ram 1500
The 2021 Ram 1500 isn’t having its looks changed too much. However, it will gain a luxurious Night version that includes monochromatic black wheels, badging, grilles, and exhaust tips. These features will be added to the Ram 1500 Limited trim.
Plus, the Ram 1500 will gain a tri-fold tonneau cover, a new sport performance hood in black, and a 19-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system. The 2021 Limited Night Ram 1500 will start around $61,000 and is expected to be available by the third quarter of 2021.
