MotorTrend ranked the 2020 Tesla Model 3 highly, placing it at No. 2 out of 12 luxury compact sedans. Edmunds also liked the 2020 Model 3, giving it Top-Rated status in the luxury EV class. Still part of the first generation, which appeared in 2017, the 2021 Model 3 doesn’t introduce any substantial changes. However, there are several new standard tech additions, and it’s surprising they haven’t already been offered in the past.

New tech features

The 2021 Tesla Model 3, manufactured in the Fremont, California, factory, will now come standard with wireless charging and two USB-C ports, according to MotorTrend. These features will also be included in later 2020 Model 3 cars too. These features were previously available only as aftermarket upgrades. They were first introduced in the Tesla Model Y earlier this year and became standard this spring in the Model 3 manufactured in China.

While it is odd that these features weren’t standard in the past, they aren’t the only missing tech features. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is still not an option. AM radio and SiriusXM satellite radio are not available either. Tesla does update features remotely over the air, so it’s possible that some other changes could be added to the Model 3 in the future.

Existing tech features in the Tesla Model 3

The 2021 Tesla Model 3 does offer plenty of technology. That includes a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, navigation, a 14-speaker audio system, and four standard USB ports. The infotainment system in the 2020 Model 3 includes Netflix, YouTube, and plenty of games.

The Tesla Model 3 includes Navigate with Autopilot, although MotorTrend found it to be sometimes inconsistent. Tesla also offers a Premium Connectivity Package for a $9.99 monthly charge, which provides video streaming capability, satellite-view maps, and live traffic visualization.

The 2021 Tesla Model 3

The 2021 Tesla Model 3 will continue to provide the design and features already available. MotorTrend liked “its confident, balanced handling and rapid acceleration.” The Model 3 has great range, beating out cars that cost far more. It has an estimated range of between 250 miles and 322 miles, depending on the version you purchase.

The 2020 Tesla Model 3 comes in three versions, which are expected to remain for 2021. They are the Standard Range Plus, Long Range, and Performance. Standard Range Plus has rear-wheel drive and one motor. It has a range of 250 miles and a maximum speed of 140 MPH.

The Long Range and the Performance both have all-wheel drive and two electric motors. Long Range has a range of 322 miles and has a top speed of 145 MPH. The Performance configuration has a lower range of 299 miles but a maximum speed of 162 MPH.

The 2021 Model 3 will continue to have the same smooth and futuristic design, without a grille in the front and with flush door handles. However, the interior is plain, and MotorTrend felt it seems “cheap.” The minimalist interior doesn’t include any buttons or gauges, and all functions are controlled through its 15-inch touchscreen. The interior has a spacious feel due to its low, flat floor.

While the front seats are comfortable, according to Car and Driver, the rear seats are cramped and not a good fit for adults. The Model 3 comes standard with blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist.

The 2021 Tesla Model 3 is expected to arrive at the end of 2020. As Tesla’s lowest-priced model, its price ranges between about $40,000 and more than $50,000. While it hadn’t included wireless charging or USB-C ports, those embarrassing omissions have now been corrected.
