The arrival of the 2021 Toyota Sienna marks a massive leap forward for the model. In an attempt to spice up the minivan, the Sienna gets a premium cabin, heaps of tech, and even a sharpened aesthetic. For 2021, the Toyota comes exclusively with a hybrid powertrain, boasting excellent efficiency figures. Despite this, the fuel-efficient van has just enough power to beat a Ferrari.

How fast is the 2021 Toyota Sienna?

While previous generations of the Toyota Sienna enjoyed a naturally-aspirated V6 engine, the 2021 model gets a welcomed downgrade. The previous output used to be 296 hp, giving the van a decent amount of punch. For 2021 the Sienna features a smaller 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. As a result, power output decreases significantly to 245 hp. However, the upside is the improved fuel-efficiency figures you’ll enjoy far more often.

As you might expect, less power makes the 2021 Toyota Sienna much slower to 60 mph. According to Car and Driver, the 2021 model completes the run in just 7.7 seconds during its official testing. In contrast, the previous generation could reach 60 mph in just 6.8 seconds, keeping up with the Honda Odyssey. Flat out, you’ll reach 100 mph in about 21 seconds, says Car and Driver.

In case you want to take your 2021 Toyota Sienna to the drag strip, Car and Driver has some interesting data. The quarter-mile is dealt with in just 15.8 seconds at 88 mpg. Unfortunately, you won’t win any top speed runs on the way to school since the Sienna is electronically limited to just 116 mph, says Car and Driver.

The Ferrari 308 GTB just can’t keep up with the Sienna

While the 2021 Toyota Sienna isn’t exactly a supercar, you won’t be able to outrun it if you’re in this vintage Ferrari. Unveiled originally in the 1975 Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari 308 GTB is a mid-engined supercar powered by a naturally aspirated V8 engine. Power goes exclusively to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. European models developed 255 hp. However, American versions of the 308 GTB had to make do with a slightly weaker 240-hp output.

While the Ferrari is slightly down on power compared to the 2021 Toyota Sienna, it is significantly lighter. The minivan tips the scales around 4,821-lb says Car and Driver. In contrast, the Ferrari weighs less than half at 2,315 lb. What allowed the Ferrari to shed the pounds was its glass-reinforced plastic construction throughout.

In a drag race, the 2021 Toyota Sienna and it’s hybrid engine would leave the Ferrari behind. According to 0to60 Times, a 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB takes 7.9 seconds to reach 60 mph. In contrast, the minivan can reach it in 7.7 seconds. Additionally, the minivan finishes the quarter-mile quicker as well, given that the supercar takes around 16 seconds, according to 0to60 Times.

What else can’t keep up with this family minivan?
