Although they deemed seven other luxury sports cars above the Toyota GR Supra, it still received tons of well-deserved praise. What makes this vehicle so commendable, and why didn’t it rank higher on the list if it’s so special?

Perhaps one of the most obvious benefits of purchasing a 2021 Toyota GR Supra is its incredible exterior, especially when purchased in black. This car looks stunning from all angles, but the front of the car is particularly eye-catching. The reviewers at U.S. News deemed the interior stylish and comfortable, mentioning the comfort of the cushy seats, and the fact that it provides enough leg and headroom for taller drivers and passengers. 

The most exciting aspect of the 2021 Toyota Supra is its performance, especially given its price point. The base model comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that packs more punch than drivers might predict. This engine produces 255 hp, and it can accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 60 MPH in five seconds flat. The optional upgraded version is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that provides 382 hp. This engine can rocket the car from 0 to 60 MPH in 3.9 seconds, a significant difference in speed. 

No matter which engine a driver purchases, the 2021 Toyota Supra will delight them with incredible handling and a smooth drive even over bumpy terrain. The 3.0-liter engine does come with an adaptive suspension that makes the car feel a bit more polished, but both versions deliver when it comes to the overall driving experience.

According to U.S. News, the 2021 Toyota Supra received a score of four out of five for reliability from J.D. Power and Associates. Toyota models consistently rank high on this metric, and this particular vehicle is no exception.

As far as safety features go, the standard vehicle offers lane keep assist, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, and more. Upgraded versions can include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and plenty of other useful safety features. 

The drawbacks to expect

Drawbacks are difficult to find when it comes to the 2021 Toyota GR Supra, but a few deserve mentioning. It does produce plenty of power and smooth handling, though it simply cannot keep up with the standards of other luxury sports cars, like the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette C8 or the 2021 Audi R8. Those vehicles come with much heftier price tags, but they also provide more power than the GR Supra. 

Additionally, the 2021 Toyota Supra offers less rear visibility than it ideally would, making it difficult to check blind spots quickly. This rings true for most sports cars, as does difficulty with entering and exiting the vehicle. The Toyota Supra succumbed to this commonality as well. These issues are clearly minor, but prospective owners should be aware that they exist. 

The 2021 Toyota Supra provides a great value

It’s no secret that the 2021 Toyota Supra does not perform quite as well as some other luxury sports cars on U.S. News’s list, but this car still provides an incredible value for drivers looking to purchase a fantastic luxury sports car under $50,000. No other cars deliver that much power and spunk for that excellent of a price.
