In 2018 Germany released the Volkswagen Atlas to provide the market with a much needed seven-person SUV. This vehicle filled the market so well that Americans flocked to it. Now, after only three years, the 2021 Atlas is getting a total redesign.

The Atlas used to be a large, bulky SUV, but that didn’t stop people from buying it. Over 81 thousand Americans bought the VW Atlas last year. 

Despite this substantial SUV’s success, it still got a fresh facelift to keep interest in it alive. It has a new, more defined look to appear slimmer and sportier. 

Part of the redesign incorporates a confident three-bar grille that curves into the front light signature. 

Also, the headlights and taillights will now have a full LED lighting redesign. This includes the high beams, low beams, turn signals, day running lights, and more. 

The Volkswagen Atlas is now a few inches longer than before, but you wouldn’t expect that with the sporty side skirts. 

Plus, the front and rear bumpers have a more rounded, slimmer look as well with well-placed air intake systems with a sleek, matte black color. 

But the best thing about this redesign is the fact that it doesn’t come with a more significant price tag. This three-row SUV will still be available for about $31k. 

What To Expect With The 2021 VW Atlas 

Along with receiving a new exterior, the VW Atlas is receiving quite a few interior updates as well. 

The cabin will have a refreshed design that maximizes comfort and space. The goal was to create a more luxurious feel that is both simple and functional. 

Many vehicles seem to be trending toward decluttering their dash and infotainment centers, so Volkswagen is jumping in on this project at the right time. 

The massive cabin will have up to 153.7 cubic feet of passenger space that you can enjoy in massive padded cloth or leather seats. 

Behind the rear seat, there is 20.6 cubic feet of cargo space, and when the seat is folded down, you can access up to 55.5 cubic feet of cargo space. 

Plus, you can choose between having captain seats or a bench row in the back seat to fit your individual needs. 

In terms of tech, the Atlas will have improved connectivity and features as well as new, advanced safety features. 

The new driver assistance features will come with more powertrain options too. All of these updates will only enhance the versatile capabilities of this larger SUV. 

2021 Volkswagen Atlas Power 

All of these updates won’t come at the expense of power. The base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder option that produces 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. 

You can also upgrade to the 3.6-liter V6 engine that pumps out 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. Depending on which option you choose, you’ll be able to tow between 2,000 to 5,000 lb. 

The 2021 VW Atlas will be available in four-wheel drive and will include driving modes to help you automatically adjust to quickly changing conditions.
