As an entry-level luxury car, the latest models provide comfort, style, and practicality without blowing your monthly budget out of the water. They are also known for being relatively reliable, so it’s surprising to see that the newest year of the Jetta already has one recall under its belt. But should it be enough to actually concern potential buyers?

Even more surprising, the previous years haven’t been much better, either.

The latest recall for the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta has already been confirmed by the NHTSA, and it is in regards to the vehicle’s backup camera. That might not seem like a big deal to many — after all, many drivers on the road today grew up driving cars without backup cameras anyway. For the Jetta, the image received from the backup camera displayed on the car’s infotainment system can appear black or just frozen, decrease driver visibility.

Backup cameras are more helpful than we realize

Some drivers have adapted to having backup cameras so heavily that it’s increasingly difficult to drive without them. More than that, it can just be genuinely frustrating to be dealing with manufacturing defects right after buying a brand new car. It is both dangerous for drivers and an annoying inconvenience. Still, such a small recall shouldn’t deter potential buyers from at least taking the latest Volkswagen Jetta for a test drive.

Even so, many drivers will fall in love with the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta and decide it’s worth the small hassle. After all, almost all recall work is done at cost of the manufacturer, so all it requires of owners is a pesky trip to the dealership to have the backup camera system issues resolved.
