The 2022 Chevy Silverado Z2R Will Dethrone the Ram TRX
Forget the Trail Boss. A new beast is coming to town. The 2022 Chevy Silverado Z2R is coming to take on rivals like the 2021 Ford Raptor and 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. Only, this Chevy doesn’t need a cute dinosaur name.
Is the 2022 Chevy Silverado Z2R happening?
Maybe. Recent spy photos from Auto Blog show that a serious off-roading Silverado model is in the works. However, it may not use the Z2R name, and it’s expected to be much beefier than the Trail Boss.
The potential 2022 Chevy Silverado Z2R looks like it’s riding on a set of remote-reservoir shocks, which is an upgrade. The only other General Motors truck with remote-reservoir shocks is the Chevy Colorado Z2R, and that midsize truck means business.
But this is only a rumor so far. The new Chevy prototype could have an entirely different setup. We’ve reached out to Chevrolet for details, but they haven’t responded yet. Either way, we’re excited to see the updates.
It also looks like the Silverado Z2R prototype is riding on a four-leaf spring suspension set up while the current Silverado only uses three. It’s sitting on 33-inch tires, though, which are smaller than what you will find on the Raptor and TRX.
Also, will the new Silverado have enough horsepower? The Ram 1500 TRX has a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine with 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. Plus, the 2022 Ford Raptor R will have a V8.
According to Auto Wise, the most potent Chevy engine is the LSC454R. It’s a Chevy Crate Engine that pumps out 776 hp from an LS Small Block. So, the potential to keep up with or surpass rivals is there.
What comes in the Trail Boss package?
The possible 2022 Chevy Silverado Z2R prototype looks like it has significant equipment upgrades over the Chevy Silverado Trail Boss package. But the Trail Boss package has a lot of off-roading upgrades to consider if you’re on a budget.
With the Custom Trail Boss, you get a 2-inch factory suspension lift with the Z71 off-roading package. It comes with an Autotrac 2-speed transfer case, automatic locking rear differential, 18-inch high gloss Black-painted aluminum wheels, Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT tires, and performance red recovery hooks.
The Chevy Silverado LT Trail Boss enhances comfort. It includes a dual-exhaust outlet with polished rectangular tips, heated seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel, a Bose premium seven-speaker sound system, and more.
What do we know about the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500?
According to GM Authority, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is getting a huge refresh. The 2022 Chevy Silverado Z2R may be a new off-roading variant that’s added to the lineup. Expect to see a new face, rear end, and a new bowtie position.
The interior should sport a larger infotainment center and a revised cockpit that includes more premium materials. The truck may incorporate the GM Global B architecture, which is also known as the Vehicle Intelligence platform.
The 4.3-liter V6 engine may be discontinued and replaced by the turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four motor. But we will have to wait and see. We expect to learn more toward the middle of summer.
