The 2022 Ford Expedition Gains Much Needed Interior Upgrades
The Ford Expedition is currently the number one SUV you can buy despite feeling a little outdated compared to rivals such as the newly refreshed Chevy Tahoe. But to maintain the crown, the 2022 Ford Expedition is getting a brand new look, inside and out.
What to expect with the 2022 Ford Expedition
Ford has been busy reworking the Expedition and the Navigator, and we are pretty excited to see if the refreshed exterior and interior will help the Expedition remain as the best SUV you can buy. The 2020 Ford Expedition still outranks the 2021 Chevy Tahoe as the number one large SUV to buy in 2021, according to U.S.News.
Currently, spy spots of the 2022 Ford Expedition don’t reveal much information. It’s safe to expect a new face with a revised grille and headlights. Also, the front bumper may have a new look. The rear will have a new bumper and taillights too.
According to Car Scoops, if the Expedition gains off-roading enhancements, then the exterior will be more rugged with a taller ride height and larger tires. This would improve the approach and departure angles to help the Ford SUV better compete against rivals like the Chevy Tahoe z71.
The new 2022 Expedition interior
According to Car and Driver, it’s about time for the new Ford Expedition to receive a new interior. The 2021 model has a plastic laden interior that looks a little cheap. The materials do get better as you go up in trim levels, but with a base price of around $49,025, the interior needs to be improved.
Good thing improvements are on the way, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E provides clues as to what to expect, including a massive touchscreen infotainment system. It will have a portrait orientation and could be up to 15.5-inches.
From the spy shots, you can see that the air vents and steering wheel have a new layout. Plus, the center console is getting a new design too. This could improve storage around the front seats.
The Expedition already has standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but maybe it will adopt the wireless versions for 2022. Also, a surround-view backup camera would help maneuverability.
Is the Expedition going Hybrid?
Maybe. The F-150, Explorer, and Escape have already gone hybrid. Also, the Ford F-150 EV and Mustang Mach-E have taken things a step further by going electric. So, a hybrid Expedition is a logical next step.
The 2022 Ford Expedition could gain the Hybrid 3.5-liter V6 engine that’s currently offered in the PowerBoost Ford F-150. It pumps out 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. Also, in the F-150, it gets an EPA estimated 25 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
We will have to wait a little longer to learn more about the new Expedition. A release date and the pricing information hasn’t been released yet. The 2022 Expedition might be the next model to make its debut after the 2021 Ford Raptor comes out soon.
