The 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line Lacks 1 Crucial Feature
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line looks great, but unfortunately, an SUV needs a little more than a confident look to impress drivers. Before you get the new Hyundai Tucson, make sure you aren’t fooled by its aggressive looks. It doesn’t have the muscle to back up its new face.
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line lacks power
What does the N in Hyundai N Line stand for? If N is for the Need for Speed, then we have a problem because the new 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line model didn’t gain any extra power. Also, to answer the question, the N is in reference to the Namyang R&D Center in South Korea.
This is where Hyundai and Kia test high-performance vehicles. The first N branded vehicle was the i30 N, which made its debut in 2017. Since then, vehicles like the Hyundai Sonata, Kona, and more have gained a high-performance N Line trim with extra power.
For example, the 2022 Kona has a 2.0-liter inline-four engine with 147 hp. But the Kona N has a 1.6-liter inline-four turbo engine that pumps out 195 hp. That’s a pretty good upgrade if you feel the need for speed.
What does the Tucson N get?
Instead of getting a bump in power, the Hyundai Tucson N Line only gets fresh looks. The most potent powertrain that the Tucson will have to offer is the plug-in hybrid powertrain. It has a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4 with a single electric motor that combine to pump out 261 hp.
If the Tucson N Line had even more power, it would be one mind-blowing model. However, on a positive note, this is still a significant increase in power. The 2021 Hyundai Tucson has two engine options.
The base model has a 2.0-liter engine with 164-hp, and the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 181-hp. So, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson will have more power even if the N Line model doesn’t provide extra muscle.
Also, the 2021 Hyundai Tucson doesn’t have many updates to offer. Only new color variants are available for 2021, as the 2022 model will feature a new redesign. It might be best to skip this model for the brand new one that will come out later this year.
What to expect with the 2022 Hyundai Tucson
Aside from the 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line model, you can expect a more confident look across all trims. According to Kelley Blue Book, the new Tucson will be a little longer and wider.
The longer wheelbase increases legroom in the rear to about 41.3-inches. The 2022 Tucson could match or exceed the amount of space that the Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue have to offer.
It will be available with gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Some versions will have new 17-inch wheels, and higher trims like the SEL and N Line trims gain 19-inch alloy wheels. Plus, larger rear and side windows provide more visibility.
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson comes with an optional 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard safety features include forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high beams, and more.
The only reason to go for the Tucson N includes its unique looks that include a rear spoiler, black roof, red stitching, grippy bucket seats, sporty steering wheel, and more. It may have racing features such as adaptive dampeners too, but no extra juice.
