The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Has New Tricks up Its Sleeves
With the return of classic SUVs making waves in the automotive industry, Jeep decided to go all-in with the return of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Like the Ford Bronco, there will be multiple Jeep Wagoneer models, including the ultra-luxurious 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
What to expect with the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
The new Jeep Grand Wagoneer looks pretty different from the station wagon it used to be, but the concept remains the same. Back in the day, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer was a luxurious option with three rows to tote the family around for adventures.
Now the 2022 Grand Jeep Wagoneer is a modern take on that concept with more space and luxury for the entire family to enjoy. Jeep is also using it to edge into the luxury three-row SUV segment to take on popular options such as the Ford Expedition and Chevy Tahoe.
But the Wagoneer name isn’t limited to this one huge SUV. Wagoneer will serve as an umbrella term to incorporate multiple options. According to MotorTrend, we could also see a new Jeep Wagoneer.
The old Jeep Wagoneer was the more affordable counterpart to the luxurious Grand Wagoneer. Clues suggest that the Wagoneer will not be smaller than the Grand Wagoneer, but both options will be offered with short and long-wheelbase forms, like the Ford Expedition and the larger Max variant.
2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Power
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is based on the Ram 1500’s frame, similar to how the Toyota Sequoia sits on the Toyota Tundra frame. It will have a body-on-frame construction for true 4×4 capabilities and will adopt an independent rear suspension for a comfortable ride.
To be competitive, the Grand Wagoneer will have to dip into the Ram 1500’s engine options, including the 3.6-liter V6 and the 5.7-liter V8. A diesel engine will probably become available later along with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, as Jeep promised to provide hybrid variants of each model by 2022.
One fun rumor suggests that there will be a Jeep Grand Wagoneer Trailhawk trim with a supercharged V8 engine option that packs more than 700 hp. The Toyota Sequoia has the TRD Pro, and the Ford Explorer has the XLT trim for off-roading, so the Grand Wagoneer Trailhawk could take the cake.
2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer features
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer will have a few different trim options ranging in price between $60,000 to $100,000 based on how many bells and whistles that you want. The luxurious trim includes huge leather seats with refined, wooden cabin materials, and 7 screens.
The screens include backseat entertainment, the infotainment center, a digital instrument display, entertainment for the front passenger, and more. Best of all, the graphics look amazing as the front console displays an image of a wood-burning fire.
In the concept, there is a full pane glass roof that has a map of Detroit. That probably won’t enter production with the map on it. Instead, the glass pane roof could open up to allow fresh air in or may be removable. The first Jeep Grand Wagoneer is expected to be available by the middle of 2021, so we will learn more clues soon.
