The 2022 Kia Sportage GT Is Racing After the Hyundai Tucson N
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson N is racing around town already, but it shouldn’t feel too confident. The 2022 Kia Sportage GT might be coming to challenge it. Check out what to expect with a wildly faster Kia Sportage model.
What we know about the 2022 Kia Sportage GT
According to AutoEvolution, the Kia Sportage could have a new GT model on the way. The 2022 Kia Sportage GT could rival the 2022 Hyundai Tucson N in terms of looks, quality, and performance.
Like the Tucson N, the Sportage GT will have an updated face with a sportier and more confident look. It could also have a new rear end and an interior with a style and feel that reflect racing.
The interior may be covered with soft-touch leather materials, bucket seats, and contrast stitching to provide pops of colors. A head-up display, digital gauge cluster display, and larger infotainment screen could be included too.
How much power will the Kia Sportage GT have?
The 2022 Kia Sportage GT could have a new 2.5-liter engine. The base engine for the Sportage is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder option with 181 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. But you can upgrade to the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine for 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This sounds like an exciting amount of muscle for a little racing SUV.
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson N doesn’t have extra power. The base engine is a 2.5-liter I-4 with 190 hp and 182 lb-ft of torque. With the 1.6-liter engine in the hybrid, you’ll get about 226 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque.
So, the Kia Sportage GT does have an opportunity to provide more muscle. But the Sportage doesn’t offer a hybrid powertrain for now. It may receive a hybrid variant in the future, but you’ll have to stick with gas for now.
Both the Hyundai Tucson and the Kia Sportage can be equipped with all-wheel drive. With the Kia Sportage, you can tow up to 1,653 lbs. If you already have a trailer with trailer brakes installed, then you can tow up to 2,000 lbs. The Hyundai Tucson can tow up to 1,650 lbs, but if your trailer has brakes, it can tow up to 2,000 lbs.
The Hyundai Tucson vs. the Kia Sportage
If you don’t want the 2022 Kia Sportage GT or Hyundai Tucson N, you can go for the none-racing options. The Kia Sportage is expected to begin at around $25,000. The 2022 Hyundai Tucson starts at about $26,135.
The Kia Sportage provides 30.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and has up to 60.1 cubic feet of cargo space total. The Hyundai Tucson delivers 38.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats with up to 73.8 cubic feet total.
Both the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson have a standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. But you can upgrade to the larger 10.25-inch screen in the Tucson. Also, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard in both SUVs.
The Sportage and Tucson both come with standard safety features such as automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assistance. Available features include adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assistance.
