The 2022 Kia Sportage Looks a Million Bucks Better Than It Should

Kia has been knocking everything it touches out of the park lately. The Kia Telluride has been such a smash success that Kia can’t hardly make enough to sell to everyone who wants one. This is, of course, hyperbolic, but you get what I’m saying, dear reader. So, when the new rendering of our best …

Kia has been knocking everything it touches out of the park lately. The Kia Telluride has been such a smash success that Kia can’t hardly make enough to sell to everyone who wants one. This is, of course, hyperbolic, but you get what I’m saying, dear reader. So, when the new rendering of our best guess of the 2022 Kia Sportage looks like this, you better start getting stoked because Kia has been delivering, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

The 2022 Kia Sportage is going to be sweet

Motor1 reports that even though Kia hasn’t revealed the SUV yet, a mix of spy photos and some creative fill in the blank has led some to speculate the Sportage’s new look. We’ve seen some camouflaged spy shots here and there over the last little while, and things are looking good. The folks over at Koaeca.ru created a rendering of the new Kia to show us what they see through the crystal ball.

What to expect from the 2022 Kia Sportage

These images are only a best guess/case scenario for the 2022 Sportage; It is not a shot in the dark, though. Some of the new Sportage spy shots came from its testing at the fabled Nurburgring in Germany. This is really giving high hopes to the Sportage fans that there may be a sporty element to the crossover.

There are other exciting bits of information we have gleaned from some of the spy shots. One of those bits is the super unique looking headlights. Kia and Hyundai have been giving cool new taillights to some new models like the 2022 Hyundai Tucson. This may seem like a small thing, but I assure you, it’s not.

Think about it, headlights and taillights haven’t changed all that much since day one. Sure there are exceptions to that, but in general, symmetrical, matching sets (or single) of lights have been the basic layout forever. The new blade-shaped headlines and taillight bars give a very futuristic and refreshing feel to a stagnant bit of car design.

The 2022Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage will have a lot in common

The 2022 Kia Sportage will share a platform with the 2022 Hyundai Tucson. They will both have the same power options as well. You’ll have the choice between the standard mill, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 187 horsepower, and 178 pound-feet of torque. A 1.6-liter hybrid and a 1.6-liter plug-in hybrid will also be available, making 226 hp and an estimated 261 hp, respectively. This assumes the Sportage follows the Tucson completely without adding any new motor options between now and April when the Sportage is launched.

Although Kia hasn’t said anything specifically about the Sportage yet, we will likely see a full-EV version of the Sportage based on Kia’s “Plan S” that is meant to give us 11 new EV models between now and 2025. It would make perfect sense if Kia started outfitting new, updated models with all-electric powerplants to start chipping away at the aggressive goal of 11 new models in five years.

Don’t be surprised if the Sportage is great

As I said, Kia is killin’ ‘em right now. If it turns out to be anything like the Palisade or the Telluride, it’ll sell like ice water in Hell. In fact, I take it all back; the 2022 Sportage is going to look great JUST as it should.
