Check it out! The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is out with a new look and fresh interior. However, looks can be a little deceiving. The updated model fails to fix one major Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross problem. 

What’s new for the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross? 

The 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross shed its old corky look for a more confident and modern style. The front and rear were both redesigned to incorporate a layout that is a bit more functional. For example, you should be able to see more out of the rear window now. 

You’ll notice that the third taillight is now integrated into the roof spoiler. Also, the C-shaped taillights complement the boomerang lights in the front. The Eclipse Cross is now five inches longer, but the wheelbase is the same. 

This increases the cargo space from 48.9 cubic feet to 50.1 cubic feet. Retuned shocks and springs should provide a smoother ride and increase comfort. Perhaps a longer wheelbase will be included with the next remodel. 

What is the Eclipse Cross Problem? 

Despite getting a new look, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross didn’t gain more power. According to The Car Connection, it comes with a 1.5-liter turbo-four engine that pumps out 152-hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. 

This isn’t an exciting amount of power at all, and to make matters worse, the Eclipse Cross has an expensive price. The 2022 model has an MSRP of about $24,590. This is a $400 price increase over the 2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. 

But for about $24,000 to 25,000, you can get a crossover SUV with more power. For example, the 2020 Mazda CX-5 begins around $25,370, and the base engine pumps out 187 hp. The Eclipse Cross should be priced at about $22,000. 

You can get equip the 2022 Eclipse Cross with all-wheel-drive, which costs an additional $1,600. But other rivals like the Kia Seltos include standard AWD. When properly equipped, the Eclipse Cross can tow up to 1,500 lb while rivals can tow about 3,000 lb. 

According to Car Indigo, the 2020 Eclipse Cross can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 8.6 seconds. This isn’t the fastest or the slowest acceleration speed, but you may have to really hit the gas to pass people on the freeway. The 2022 model hasn’t been track tested yet. 

How is the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross interior? 

If you don’t have the need for speed or a sporty ride, the 2022 Eclipse Cross is still a good SUV to consider buying. The interior is adequate, with available black leather finishes. Black panels are offset by silver pops of color around the center stack. 

The 7.0-inch touchscreen can be upgraded to 8-inches. Plus, the touchpad has been replaced by physical knobs, making the infotainment system easier to use. But here is the kicker, there is no Apple CarPlay, or Android Auto included with the base model. 

Each Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross model now includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-departure warnings, though. If you need Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, upgrade to the LE trim for $25,940. The price increase of $650 includes smartphone compatibility, heated front seats, automatic high beams, and automatic wipers. So, it’s not a terrible deal.
