The 2022 Nissan Frontier is Still a Little Old
The 2022 Nissan Frontier has finally been revealed. We can’t exactly call the new Nissan Frontier a GrandPa anymore. It has been updated to be a little more modern, like a cool aunt now. However, it’s not all new. It still has a few old parts.
The 2022 Nissan Frontier isn’t all-new
If you’re a Frontier fan, then the 2022 Nissan Frontier will be a perfect new truck. It still has everything you love about it, only with a new look, upgraded tech, and a better ride. Plus, it won’t feel farm from home.
According to AutoBlog, the last time the Nissan Frontier received this many changes was in 2005. The 2022 model is still using the same F-Alpha platform that it had back in the day too. Only it got a few updates.
The wheelbase is the same length as the original frame, but it’s been modified to enhance durability, ride quality, and more. For example, hydraulic and cabin mounts now connect in the rear to reduce shakiness from the road. This provides a smoother ride and should reduce the road vibration by 80-percent.
The frame also gained new tow hooks in the front, a larger front stabilizer bar, a new rear stabilizer bar, and an updated hydraulic steering system with an increased gear ratio to be a little lighter.
The main reason why they had to update the frame was to improve safety. The Frontier platform came out years before the IIHS started overlap testing, so this truck wasn’t getting the best scores. It should be much safer now, though.
Did the new Nissan Frontier get more power?
Sort of. The 2020 Nissan Frontier got a new engine, which was carried over for the 2022 model. That engine is a relatively new 2.8-liter V6 option with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. So, if you don’t care for the updated looks and tech, you can save with a used model.
According to CNET, the new Frontier has a maximum payload rating of 1,610 lb. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 6,720 lb. This is a solid amount, but not the best. The 2020 Chevy Colorado can tow up to 7,700 lb. But trailer sway control comes standard, so that’s a convenient perk.
The Nissan Frontier Pro-4x will be offered with four-wheel-drive. It also adds Bilstein shocks, skid plates in the front, a two-speed transfer case, and a rear locking differential. A new off-road mode and a 360-degree camera are also included. So the off-roading updates are only minimal so far.
How is the 2022 Frontier Interior?
Thank goodness the 2022 Nissan Frontier received an updated interior. It was really past its time for an upgrade. Red stitching and accents provide pops of color. Honestly, it seems reminiscent of the Renegade, though.
A new 8-inch touch screen comes standard, and we can’t wait to see the updated graphics. You can upgrade to the larger 9-inch screen too. Also, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard.
This doesn’t feel like much of a tech upgrade. But the Frontier now includes a USB-A and USB-C charging port. You can spring for a wireless chatting pad in the Pro-4X or Pro-X trims too. Other than that, the main tech updates include safety features.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 offers blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking with rear-cross traffic alert, and automatic rear braking. But there is a catch. None of these features are standard despite being standard on rivals.
